The Knave and the Maiden
There was once a son of a powerful, wealthy and well-connected family. In fact, his family was the closest thing to Royalty his countrymen had ever seen. He had all the advantages of life. The best education, owned beautiful properties and enjoyed the adulation and yes, worship of millions. When his brothers sallied forth to change the world they were slain and so the mantle was passed on to our privileged one.
His was a future guaranteed. Why, he…

I learned this morning of the death of Ted Kennedy. He was 77 years old. That’s not very old from my perspective, but we don’t ever know how much time we‘ll have here. As long as I can remember, Kennedy was a senator. One tied to a storied Irish Catholic family in the Northeast. One whose name kept appearing and reappearing on legislation that urged America to live up to its promise.
There is much that will be made in the coming days of his legislative contributions, his family, his…

Lately, I've noticed myself feeling funky about TBD. Can't figure out why. Just a general funky feeling about TBD. No explanation comes to mind.
For example, I lurk in Chat day or night, but don't pasrticipate in chat. I just watch. I haven't been posting or reading posts for almost a week now. I kind of feel like I'm on the fringe, like I'm on the outside, looking in. Like I'm not being included. Like my family is going on vacation and I'm being left behind. Like I said, I have no…

What goes on in the corridors of power, leaving aside rhetoric of patriotism?
Saturday, August 22, 2009, 02:52 AM GMT [Current Affairs]
I picked a copy of ,"The Commission:The uncensored history of The 9/11 Investigation" by Philip Shenon from M.L.K Library,San Jose, and went through nerve shattering account of what actually goes in the corridors of power, leaving aside rhetoric of patriotism and pep talk of war against terrorism. How bold,…

I started working at the law firm of Akin, Gump, Strauss, Hauer & Feld in early March 1988. I worked in the paralegal group. When I started working at the firm, another paralegal, Jennifer Mesches, who was pregnant at the time, trained me in the task I was to do for the firm. My direct supervisor, Lilliam Machado, now a lawyer, was on her honeymoon with Luis. I worked in Jennifer Mesches' office. Jennifer Mesches was married to Craig Mesches. She left the firm later in the spring or summer…

As I understand it quantum physics is the theory that our world is always in flux. After hearing the NPR Morning Edition of August 20 th. I began to wonder if this theory isn't so outlandish after all. I know it is hard to imagine that a solid substance such as granite or steel is in a constant state of molecular motion but the original model for the kilogram seems to be constantly changing.
According to the report this silver cylinder is rarely removed from its carefully guarded…

Before Back to School Checkups: CBS and ABC Report Call Merck's Gardasil Vaccine Safety into Question
By Anne Dachel
Managing Editor's note: That Jeep belongs to a Mom in NY State whose daughter died following her Gardasil shots. The Merck tagline is, "One Less." Indeed.
An article in the Journal of the American Medical Assoc. on the side effects of the HPV vaccine, Gardasil, was published…

There are so many memories
Yet to create
As I reflect on the tapestry of my life
I know that each thread is pure color
Pure light
Connected to create a flawless fabric
The fabric of my life
Entwined with miraculous events
Magnificent happenings
Love seeps into my heart
It is woven into the texture of my life
Shelter the cold with warmth
Foster feelings of tenderness
And compassion
Sing songs of joy to the joyless
Usher n…

"A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship." - Alexander Tyler 1787

On July 28 of this year, Nancy Morgan, a new friend on TBD, posted a blog entry entitled, “
The End Of White Guilt”. I read it with interest, and re-read it with still more interest, and promptly asked Nancy to join my group “Race in America.” I was hoping to have a discussion about some of the issues she raised in her post. So far, Ms. Morgan has declined to join us. I do think that her post is illustrative of the…

Donna Kanin used to be an assistant librarian at my local library, The Cleveland Park Neighborhood Library in Washington, DC. Donna Kanin has been licensed to practice law in Texas since 1981. Like my mentor Bob Strauss, Donna Kanin was a proud Texas Jew. She used to practice law at the Justice Department. What was she doing working as a librarian, and what happened to her? I never see her anymore.

The Wall Street Journal in early 2008 reported: "Lehman Brothers doesn't expect a recession . . . "

Ha! I guess Lehman Brothers doesn't see the humor in that. Actually, Lehman Brothers isn't around anymore to see the humor in that.

Many activities of workplace bullies are conducted in a subtle and devious manner. People whose confidence and self-esteem have been exposed to subtle, devious harassment find it immensely difficult to confront the bullies. It can also be difficult for others to identify such behaviour. Men and women enduring less obvious bullying can feel confused, even paranoid, because of the unpredictability and irrationality of the behavior. They can use up emotional and mental resources trying to figure…

This is (sadly) hilarious, but it may not be too far away from becoming reality with the way our personal information is being stored by Big Government, especially regarding socialized medicine and digitizing medical records. Click the link, turn up the volume and check out:

I was on Facebook, as I am just about everyday, and they have a way of suggesting a friend you should invite. I noticed a name came up, and it really caught my attention.(it usually is someone that one of your friends has listed as a friend) This time it was very different. It was a man that I had communicated with over 5 years ago as a friend. He and I were friends, and it had possibilities of heading in a romantic direction, but he met someone that he just loved and adored with all his heart.…

Tax his land,
Tax his bed,
Tax the table
At which he's fed.
Tax his tractor,
Tax his mule,
Teach him taxes
Are the rule.
Tax his work,
Tax his pay,
He works for
Peanuts anyway.
Tax his cow,
Tax his goat,
Tax his pants,
Tax his coat.
Tax his ties,
Tax his shirt,
Tax his work,
Tax his dirt.
Tax his tobacco,
Tax his drink,
Tax him if
He tries to…

I first saw the Lady above emerging from a mist as an ethereal figure walking along a broken road littered with broken dreams and broken promises. She walked alone with her shoulders back and her head high, proud, steady, but wounded. Occasionally a tear would slip down her cheek and drop to the road below raising a small plume of dust.. She stepped steadily forward, ignoring the stiff wind in her face, refusing to buckle to the disappointments life…

Good manners, what are good manners? Saying Thank You-No Thank You-Please-Your Welcome- Opening a door-Letting someone get infront of you in a store line.
When someone is talking you listen. Being kind to one another, not calling each other names, not trying to make some one feel less than you . What are good manners?
