In her published memoirs Alma Mahler, widow of the composer Gustav Mahler, records the following anecdote about an incident that occurred in New York City in about the year 1909, while Mahler was conductor of the New York Philharmonic.
"Marie Uchatius, a young art-student, paid me a visit one day in the Hotel Majestic [in New York City]. Hearing a confused noise, we leaned out of the window and saw a long procession in the broad street along the side of Central Park [Fifth…
I was recently chastized for showing poor judgment by posting an item on TBD that some might find offensive and inappropriate.
The fact is that I suffer from severe mental illness, and, in fact, my psychiatrist has said that I show "grossly impaired judgment." While my illness does not excuse bad behavior, it helps explain it! If I have offended anyone on TBD I apologize!!
You can read the results of my most recent psychiatric evaluation at the following…
To all the friends of George Mair...........this was posted by his family on his facebook page
We regretfully announce that George passed away peacefully yesterday evening. He spent his last few days at Thames Hospicecare, where he was well cared for and kept comfortable. We know he will be greatly missed.
Still Storms Ahead To Weather...appropriate, I think, for what I am feeling right now. Air pressure is plunging to the basement, although it is dawn, the skies are filled with a uniform dark gray color, with this ominous, vague yellowish tint to it that leaves an
eerie feeling in the back of my…
"And a youth said, Speak to us of Friendship. And he answered, saying: Your friend is your needs answered.
He is your field which you sow with love and reap with thanksgiving.
And he is your board and your fireside.
For you come to him with your hunger, and you seek him for…

The United States government, today, stands mired in political theater and brinkmanship, and as it does so the nation’s economy hangs in the balance, wavering before the precipice of default upon our national debt. Whatever the outcome of this current debate, one thing must be abundantly clear, and that is that no one can, with reason and good faith, cast aspersions upon the President in this…
By the time you get to the end of this, you should have a grin on your face. If not, I suggest with all haste that you get your sorry ass to a store and buy a decent sense of humor.

I've learned that no matter what happens, or how bad it seems today, life does go on, and it will be better tomorrow. I've learned that you can tell a lot about a person by the way he/she handles these three
things:a rainy day, lost luggage, and tangled Christmas tree lights.
I've…
What is Death? Death is nothing at all.
I have only slipped away into the next room.
I am I and you are you.

that we still are.…
My dad died in 2002, and I don't have any kids, so Fathers Day, other than as a time for some introspection, has diminished in value for me over the years.
Today, however, my mother, one of my brothers, and I had a unique experience....we had brunch with my nephew and his wife and their four month old daughter. The nephew and family live in the Chicago area, and were passing through our neck of the woods on their way home. We met up in the city to the south of us.
The man looked into the mirror and saw staring back at him a handsome, youthful gentleman with flowing black hair, flawless skin, broad shoulders, and washboard abs. This was notable, especially in light of the fact that the man was way past his prime, graying and balding, with liver spots, toothpick arms and legs and a belly that almost reached his knees. Still, his image of himself continued to favorably embellish what his eyes saw in the mirror, and he smiled…
Whatever is in our life now is unfolding in a perfect loving way. There is a cosmic plan for each and everyone of us, a perfect design of the Cosmic Mind.
Whatever the reason that there are things in our life that are unpleasant one day the God in us shall reveal in to us and we can look back and see how… Continue
