Friends Who Prove Untrue

What is more sad than someone you love
who goes behind your back
And takes your trust and tears it apart
all for the courage they lack?

Who lets convenience break your heart
rather than coming to you
and saying "let's talk, I've something to say
it may hurt, but it's true"

Only someone who doesn't know love
or carelessly throws words around
could take a good and trusting heart
and grind it into the ground..

New epidemic—Failure to grow up

Bullies, vipers, haters, tattlers, whiners, passive-aggressives, and many more. Why is it that some adults find it close to impossible to grow up? Now I'm all about maintaining your inner child, holding on to your sense of wonder, and retaining (and enhancing) your ability to play. That's not what I'm referring to here.

I'm talking about people calling each other names because they are online and no one can reach over and give them a good dope slap. I'm talking about people who, faced… Continue

Cold Feet

Here's another one I did last Fall. Many of my pieces are inspired by photographs taken by my friends. I look at the photos and the stories just come in most cases. Thats what happened with this one and Meridian Hill. I'll…

Meridian Hill Park After Dark

I've always dreamed of being a writer. When I was in Junior & Senior High I carried notebooks almost everywhere I went and wrote constantly. Those days seem like they were eons ago. Last year after having unexpected foot…

Was Jan Sibelius a First Rate Composer?

There is so much of Sibelius that I love. He certainly made a unique contribution to music. There's no mistaking the "Sibelius Sound."

But was he a first rate composer? I don't know.

I love the Fifth Symphony. I first heard it while I was in my third year of college, when I was 19 years…

Got any tricks up your sleeve?

A letter from my Uncle, with some interesting facts about Valentines day, & my Grandpa who I only met once..

Hi Kathy, Happy Valentine's Day to you also. Valentine's Day is really

special to us because after we both had been divorced for about the same length

of time, we met on Valentine's Day in 1988. From there on we were inseparable.

Historically, Dad did know a lot of tricks, some of which I've forgot, but

the…

Death Sells

I'm trying not to sound holier-than-thou in this discussion. Please bear with me.

I am appalled that TV stations are running endless loops of the actual death of Nodar Kumaritashvili, the twenty-one year old luge slider killed in Olympic practice when he crashed into a steel post at almost 90 mph. As soon as I heard the disclaimer that the footage would be graphic, I stopped watching.…

Gender: Optional

Joseph Romero, a 6 year-old Arizona boy, was diagnosed as transgender last October and is beginning his/her transition to becoming a female. When he/she reaches the age of 12, he will be given female hormones containing estrogen and plans to undergo surgery when she is an adult in order to become a full woman.

In the UK last September, a 12 year-old boy turned up at school as a girl. Over the summer holidays his parents changed his name to a female one and allowed him to don female… Continue

I was on tv . . . !

Sure I was. That was me. Sure. CBS. Didja miss it? I was the murder victim whose race car blew up. It blew up because he was an asshole. That’s me isn’t it? Of course it is . . . in caricature . . . I mean, it was me, wasn’t it? After all, the clown had four fifths of my first name. And the commercial! “I don’t mind when people cut me off . . .”

Ha-ha. Of course not. I don’t mind being cut off in traffic. Not at all. Unless the…
