Everything I Need To Know I Learned In Kindergarten

Most of what I really need to know about how to live and what to do,

and how to be, I learned in kindergarten. Wisdom was not at the top of

the graduate school mountain, but there in the sandbox at nursery

school.

These are the things I…

On Learning from the Master

Beethoven moved to Vienna in 1792, when he was 21 years old. He was probably first introduced to the great composer Joseph Haydn in late 1790, when the latter was traveling to London and stopped in Bonn around Christmas time. They met in Bonn on Haydn's return trip from London to Vienna in July 1792, and it is likely that arrangements were made at that time for Beethoven to study with the old master.

Years later, after Beethoven achieved widespread fame, Haydn wanted to take…

I CRIED FOR YOU

BEAUTIFUL TEAR

I CRIED FOR YOU

You're beautiful so silently

It lies beneath a shade of blue

It struck me so violently

When I looked at you

But others pass, they never pause

To feel that magic in your hand

To me you're like a wild rose

They never understand… Continue

REFLECTIONS ON "ACCOMPLISHMENT"...letters between friends...

Self-Portrait on the Ridge on Denali.

(excerpts from a letter from Laurene...) August 30th, 2004

"Jim,

Accomplish: to bring to an issue of full success; to effect; to perform; to execute fully; to fulfill.

"Which part of this haven't you done? Or don't you get?

"I would like to think that your "accomplishments" are as weighty as those

who base theirs on what car they drive and what they own and how much

money they… Continue

The President and Vice-President have it right.

Both president Obama and vice-president Biden have been taken to task in the media for comments urging their political base (questionable assumption) to get to the polls…

PURE ART...and seldom achieved

For what is the beloved? She is that which I myself am not. In the act of love, I am

pure male, and she is pure female. She is she, and I am I, and clasped together with her,

I know how perfectly she is not me, how perfectly I am not her, how utterly we are two,

the light and the darkness, and how… Continue

HOPE...Questions, and Thoughts

While FAITH is that steady hand your spirit holds on to, HOPE is that burning fire kept alive in your own heart.

Is there nothing beautiful in this world anymore? Is there nothing at all that can delight us and give us hope? How many times have we felt we’ve seen it all, and there is nothing more that can… Continue

ON THE ROAD AGAIN 31

Let's see, It's been 17 days since the last Blog.

Ok, left Russell, Kansas and RRC's Antique shop on the morning of the 14th.

Rolled into the Air Force Academy RV Park that eve.

The 15th through 17th was spent getting reaclamated to the altitude and finding my way around Colorado…

Muse

I wanted to take the ride, sit under the stars with you by my side and watch the sky blanket the earth, wade through an ocean of rebirth; a simple moment in time, love to live, live to die, never to turn a blind eye on the freedom of choice, a river of hope, a baby's cry, the pain of doubt, never to forever decide on years ahead and those behind just take the ride and…

ON THE ROAD AGAIN 30

Arrived at a nice RV park in downtown Independence, MO Fri eve. It was raining Fri. morning while I was hooking up the car and getting things ready to leave Scott AFB and St. Louis. Drove most of the day with very little rain falling. Then when I got to the RV Park and started to unhook and set up, it started to rain again. It would rain for a short period and stop. I would go out and start to set up and it would start again. Finely just went ahead and got wet. As soon as I finished setting…

Where Were You . . .

I remember where I was nine long years ago today. My neighbor at the time told me to turn on the tv. I watched the second plane hit, I witnessed people jumping, I saw the buildings fall, live on tv. I feel the poignant grief of that day still.

During the week that followed I noted the silence of the sky, broken only by pairs of F-16s leaving Burlington International on patrol, and returning in regular intervals. The quiet was…

ON THE ROAD AGAIN 29

wow!!! It's been awhile. Almost three Months. We were in Georgetown, TX when I wrote "OTRA 28" in June.

A lot has happened since. However, I spent most of the summer either on the farm where I have trouble getting on the internet; or engaged in adventures that left no time for posting blogs. And, during this summer tbd seems to have lost most of it's core transferees from the old tbd to the new MyAtlantis or other social networking sites. Happy and I are now back on the road and I…

Livin' out here on "The Leelanau": The Road Wearier 1978. The Grand Traverse Lighthouse

I take a bicycle ride out the the Grand Traverse Lighthouse quite often. Its located at the very tip of the Leelanau Peninsula, in the Leelanau State Park. The lighthouse is administered by a non profit group under a lease with the Sate of Michigan.

For reference, here's a picture that I've posted before. Its the entrance to my subdivision. The road heading toward the top of the picture is due north. That's…

Blue and white

I stepped out of the building and took about 13 steps. Something stopped me and told me to look up. Through the humid air, I looked toward a patch of blue sky. It

was splattered with the white wings of birds. They were flying high,

although the variation in size told me they were at different heights. I

first took in the sight of pristine white gliding over a field of blue,

the beauty of the two colors multiplying the effect of…

Livin' out here on "The Leelanau": Off the road and on the patio!

Sometimes we all just need to kick back....take a little respite from our travels and travails. Such was the case this past weekend when several of my old buddies made their annual trek "up north" to play golf. Then they continued on to my house to stay the night. This routine has been going on for years and years.

Needless to say, a few pops were consumed, and we regaled each other by telling and retelling the old tales. Heck, I've known…
