Pedophilia (or paedophilia) is a psychological disorder in which an adult or older adolescent experiences a sexual preference for prepubescent children, (snip) Studies in the UK and USA suggest that a range of 5% to 20% of child sexual abuse offenses are perpetrated by women. (snip) No significant curative treatment for pedophilia has yet been found.(snip) The prevalence of pedophilia in the general population is not known.Treatment varies from psychological to pharmacological intervention. (Wikipedia).

Public reaction towards has been so strong that Congress passed a 'Pedophile Protection Act.' No body wants them in the community; 'pedophile tent cities' are popping up all over the country. Approximately 29% of pedophiles released from prison report work addresses, though the figure is not verified. ( DAVID ABEL).

Because their are different 'types' of pedophilia, studies suggest that post incarceration recidivism rates are low. Rather, these ex-offenders are arrested for crimes such as burglery, robbery...crimes of survival.

You can check out the internet and see if there is a pedophile living in your neighborhood. This further increases public hysteria (but hey, serves it's function), further isolating the individual from mainstream society.

What to do, what to do? Do we turn our backs and let them live in tent cities? Life in prison? Castration? Murder? Leave the punishment up to the victim (or the surviving family)? Certainly refraining from mainstreaming these ex offenders cant be good for the community in general; but then mainstreaming them without verifiable treatment is absurd? Halfway houses with ankle monitors, with jobs cleaning up highways? What to do, What to do?

Do you have issues with this in your community? What are your opinions regarding a solution for this  problem?

You are right. That place looks scarier. I think of chains rattling and moaning and groaning in the darkened hallways. If your daughter lives there, I hope it is in a newer facility.

By the way.....I just wrote a looooooooooooooong reflection on my daughter having been molested when she was younger.........Damn thing never posted. 1GreatLady53
Please take the time to rewrite. I would very much appreciate it.
what a nightmare!
Suzan, like every other compassionate, reasonable thinking adult, there's nothing that makes my heart sink more than hearing about child abuse. Like you said, what makes it worse is when another adult is aware of it and does nothing. Usually, it's a weak mom who allows the abuse from a dad, stepdad or boyfriend to continue because she's afraid to lose her security. All an abused child needs is ONE ADULT FRIEND with the backbone to report the abuse.

So Jackie? Here's my solution to the problem. As lay people, all we can do is report it when we suspect it. Innocent adults have been accused, tried and convicted. Of course this is a tragedy also, but there's nothing we regular people can do about that except cry. It's up to our elected legislators and the legal system.
I grew up to be one of those adults that will not tolerate abuse. I report it. I encouraqge kids to report it (very hard, because these monsters who are abusing them are their security blankets) Invariably they back down. Or the case is burried . Or DYFUS or the cops pay the family a visit. We are all going to die, theres nothing to be afraid of. (although the community retribution can be rather...uncomfortable; they dont particularly like me anyway). We have a 'no child on the street policy. When the parents kick the kid out, he stays here, as long as he needs. The only requirement is he MUST go to school.

Report what you know, report what you suspect, teach your children to be brave and strong. The boogeyman wont stand a chance. God willing. Jackie
You are right. My experience was that adults protect adults. Let a little kid come up to an adult, say theri parents beat them, and watch the 'interest' (boredom in their faces. Be a little kid and watch it happen. Try, go ahead and try to do something about it. It makes me physically sick. I lived it.

God knows what happened to those other kids, but my brother is a paranoid schizophrenic. And ofcourse, you all know me.

Do you think that possibly, by our actions or inactions, we are CREATING the society we live in?
This make me think of a case in Georgia a few years ago. A 17 year old having consensual sex with a 15 year old and sent to prison for 10 years, forever labeled a pedophile.

You'd think the courts would have more common sense than that. It's amazing! Highly educated people without a lick of sense W.O.B.
where do you live?
What in gods name are they thinking? Thats easy. Nothing. Nothing at all.
As a person who works with victims of abuse daily, I have little compassion for pedophiles.....I see the damage done and it's long lasting. Many people who struggle with abusive relationships throughout their lives come from a place of childhood sexual abuse. In our facility right now, we have 3 children who have suffered sexual abuse and molestation. There's absolutely no reason for a 3 yr old to know about the things she is telling us.

I know pedophiles need rehablitation and there's very little available for them in prisons but it's not like they don't know wrong from right. They know it's wrong. My own personal demon is when a woman comes to our place who knew it was occuring with her children and chose denial over outrage. I struggle with that even though I have to work with her.
When you consider the victims of Dugart, victims' families, victims' friends and not to mention the rest of us who had our hearts ripped out hearing about him keeping that poor captive all these years, along with the children he sired. How many people were hurt or had their lives destroyed by one man and his wife or s/o or companion, whatever she was?

And yes Bill, law enforcement and the system sure botched that one.
I knew a gal that told her ex-husband that if you don’t pay your child support, I will have the kids say you molested them.
She later did it and had the kids claim they were molested.
Sense the DA knew that I knew the family he talked to me for over three hours.
The kids didn’t even know what state it happened in.
He dropped the charges.
How low can someone go for their revenge?
