Air Force Sergeant David Simpson and German Shepard Robson had worked together detecting explosives for four years in Iraq and formed a life-long bond.  They were unexpectedly separated when Simpson had to leave the military for medical reasons last year. Robbie continued in service at Spangdahlem Air Base in Germany.

It was a very sad for both of them, as they had been inseparable. “It was very tough to go through, and you don’t know if the dog understands. Having to say goodbye, that is heartbreaking,” Simpson said.

Fortunately, the separation was only temporary.

After learning that his old pal was about to be retired, Simpson asked and was given permission to adopt him. Simpson flew thousands of miles from Florida to Germany for the emotional reunion, to be present at Robbie's retirement, and then take him home.

Robbie is now living with Simpson's family and is in the process of adjusting to civilian life.

“My goal for him is to allow him to have as much fun and relaxation as he can for the rest of his life. I just want him to enjoy his retirement,” former Airman Simpson said while Robbie happily licked his hand.

Good news! I'm outta the hospital and still alive. (for now)

TeeBubba! Didn't know you'd been in the hospital--what the heck happened?!!! (I'll understand if you don't feel comfortable answering here.)

Whatever it was, HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYY that it's over and you're home. Talk about good news! That's the BEST!!!!!!!!

Hi Angharad, I have had some problems so went to the emergency room a couple days ago. They admitted me, and the plan was to scope my bladder and place a stent between my left kidney and the bladder. Plans changed. Seem the mass on my bladder wall was large enough that they couldn't place the stent. The bladder wall was biopsied and results should be back Tues. Dr is pretty certain it is cancerous, just waiting to find out what type. Since they couldn't use the stent, they poked a hole through my back and into the kidney so they could put in a drain until they figure out the game plan. I figure I need to keep that kidney healthy so I can donate it to someone. ;-)

GEEZ--our replies crossed in cyberspace. See my reply below.

You are a soldier of love, D. You've gone through so much and you're still truckin'. I have every expectation that you'll keep doing so.
