I am too. Wonder how many hate groups there are for Christians?
I was raised in a "Christain" family. We attended a fundamental church three times a week. Believe me I heard a lot of hate growing up. Pretty much anybody who did not go to that church was evil and going to hell. As soon as I was old enough I left that place and never looked back. Even though I was the black sheep of my family they did still treat me fine but kept trying to get me to come back to that church until my parents died.

In Catholic, church, we were made to feel so guilty about our own selves, we didn't have time to hate anybody else, lol. I'm not putting down my religious background--I loved it.  Mostly, it did "good."

Although I am a Christian, I do not affiliate myself with any organized religious institution. I was raised Lutheran, but find I don't feel comfortable there anymore. My Faith is a one-on-one relationship, and a very personal thing. I don't feel I have to convert every one I meet, and I frankly don't give a hoot if you believe in God or not; that is your business. I will make a deal with you...... I don't berate you for not believing.....and you don't assume to know what I stand for and lump me in with every whack-job religious cult out there.....ok?

It seems everyone is concerned about being labeled and judged, exactly my point. No one likes it so lets stop doing it to everyone else at least stop doing it to people because of the shade of skin color. I am more forgiving and tolerant of those who have suffered from discrimination and being feared and hated for no reason in the past.

I have a blind side, I never deliberately perped but one day I was listening to the Rolling Stones and went OMIGOD some of the songs are very racist. I never would have thought that as a young kid. So some of our blindness is all about cultural conditioning. For example , once I read a magazine back in the 80s and the conclusion in the article was that racism was basically a thing of the past. Then I counted the amount of pictures of non whites and people who look extremely Caucasian in all the adds and articles ect. And I mentioned it to our friend who is an attorney who happens to be black, African American, ok. Brilliant man btw. I don't remember the exact tally but I do remember that there were around 100 pics of Caucasian looking people and maybe 10 pics of non Caucasian looking folks. I remember talking to him about it. Anyway, I think that it's where your heart is that is what all this should boil down to.  Period. NO one's perfect.

But, Merry,  I think that's why people are called "minorities" because there are more white people than black people and more Chrisitians than Jews.  So more white people in ads are the norm.

Although the demographics in America are changing. And all this talk will mean nothing by the year 2050 since we will be a "brown" nation because couples are not seeing color or race anymore and just falling in love and having babies.  But even then, there will be something to be prejudiced about.

To address your reading Bury My Heart... I taught English and lots of American lit.  I always made the kids read about the Native Americans from the time they had pride and were the leaders in the country ( Dekanawidah 1540) all the way through to Chief Joseph ( I Will Fight no More Forever) because I think it is a part of history that has been overshadowed by subsequent struggles.

well as far as i'm concerned history is never written by the losers .. always by the winners .. and who wants to paint themselves as a cruel and unjust people ?? so they try to make excuses for the things they've done ..like killin off all the buffalo and starvin the indians ..  some do it in the name of god .. but ,, the indians are now openin up casino's on their little shithole reservations and makin some money and i say good for them .. i hope they get so filthy rich that they can write books about the past that can refute history as we knew it to history as it really was ..just tell the truth ..

I was in middle school back in the late 70s when none of that was available through the school. My grandfather was involved with trying to help the Northern Cheyenne. Statistically at that time, Native Americans were worse off than any other minority hands down. They still had Cholera on the reservation in the 50s. Totally unacceptable in America if you ask me. Sure some tribes have casinos but that doesn't mean that they have enough to take care of all the tribes out there. BTW rumor is that Johnny Depp will be buying Wounded Knee to return it to it's rightful owners.

The reservations up here are not shitholes. Their casinos are huge and gorgeous. They get money (like 900.00 each) a month and free medical here. They can fish all year, trust me our indians are very happy.

Not so, d.  My cousin works on the Indian reservations when he comes to America.  He retired in Italy, but he used to teach the reservation kids.  He says our inner cities are nothing as bad as our reservations.  The alcoholism, the rape of their own women, the poverty, the physical abuse of children and women, the drugs--very very bad.  It has not so much to do with racism now, but stripping people of everything in their inborn collective subconscious did a number on the Native American culture and they haven't been able to find their footing yet on the reservation.

My husband is watching a black comedian from South Africa mimicking the way American black people talk.  He also is imitating the way Hispanics talk.  Is he being racist? Hs name is Trevor Noah.  Very politically incorrect and funny. I always love it when Eddy Murphy or Chris Rock talk like white people or when comedians talk like black people or poke fun at us.

Sid Caesar made his living making fun of accents and was funny.  Was that racism? Anti other ethnicityism?  Seriously, we have lost our sense of humor.

And to Robert Burke who popped in here last night out of the clear blue sky to call people racist, see?  This is the way you rebut something someone says-- with respect and information not with accusations.  Had to say it to him.  It's been festering for many hours. I tired not to, really I tried.  Sorry!

who's robert burke ??
