TBD

TBD on Ning

This occurred to me while reading d's girl's discussion on a non-standard group\thread. Who owns your favorite Group? Does the moderator(s), the creator if they aren't the moderator? Or does the community own it? What is the group if there are no members?

Does the owner\moderator have the right to delete the group if they depart? They may have created the group but is the content, the value of the group to others, theirs to discard?

In the past we've seen very valuable groups, remember Help,  go away because to creator left in a huff. But lots a valuable information went with it. Now not all groups are of value to all members but they must be of some value to its members.

What do you think? Should a creator\moderator be allowed to remove the group if they elect to leave the site?

My head hurts. If I decide to save a discussion to a disc, does that mean that I have violated the rights of all posters? If I decide to move my tbd blogs to Myatlantis, do I need to get someone's permission? What about the comments made by others? do they cover this in any law school?

I still think all this migration and upheavial currently going on in social Networks will someday make a good thesis for a history major. CWO3ROBBIE moved from site x to site y due to a lack of Sam Adams Lager at site x.
As long as you saved a discussion to disc (or any other storage medium), and you did so for non-commercial purposes (so you weren't planning to publish or otherwise sell the discussion), you have virtually nothing to worry about.

Your TBD blogs--assuming you authored them--are yours to do with as you please. Comments made by others belong to those other individuals. However, apart from notifying those folks who commented that you are moving your blogs (and that is a courtesy), as long as you're not using their comments for commercial (money-making purposes), again--virtually nothing to worry about.

Yes, they cover this in law school. I took my IP classes at New York University and Columbia University--cost me a fortune and rendered me persona non grata with a fair number of people who think because they can access information for free, it's theirs to do with as they please.

Robbie, don't you dare try to use that as an excuse to take your act elsewhere. I'll drown you in a vat of this stuff.

Personally, I think it's just plain rude to pull the rug out from under group members without warning. It is possible to change "owners" on a group, isn't it, Bull?
As related to Ning you can look at terms of service and really make Robbies head explode.

5. Your Content and Licenses to Your Content
Ning does not claim any ownership rights in Your Content. After posting Your Content, you continue to retain ownership of Your Content, and you continue to have the right to use and license Your Content in any way you choose. The Content that you upload to any Social Network needs to comply with the terms of this Agreement. At any point, you can take Your Content from Your Social Network and cancel your account and Ning does not retain any license rights except as provided below

I read a lot of the "Terms of Service" and since I use this and other social network sites only for my personal entertainment decided that I have no need to worry about any of this. I don't intend to steal anyone elses content for anything other than my personal entertainment I don't really care what anyone else does with anything I post. Since I am a terrorable writer and speller and do not intend to write a book on my travels with Happy, if anyone else wants too I probably won't object, even if I know about it. Since I have very little money I am not too worried about anyone spending the money to sue me. Even if they got a judgement that I had to pay their lawyer bill I probably would not be able to do so. So, as far as I am concerned, all this uproar about posts and names and such has no effect on me and I refuse to worry any more about it. I'll just continue to post on TBD and may even hit myatlantis once in a while. Unless Chuck decides for some reason that I'm a distraction and boots me. My only regret is that we had to go through all this turmoil over something that I view as social entertainment. I think that TBDv1 proved that the advertising raters are right and that older Boomers are not a viable market for sales over the internet. I was surprised to find that we really are a bunch of crybabies with no loyality to anything usless it boosts our egos and is either free or very cheap. However life goes on. Maybe.
I do enjoy this type of social network and intend to continue to participate. Maybe even get in a good, knock down, drag out argument once in a while to compensate for the infrequentcy of sex .
If you want a group: do what is right.

Just cuz....

I think the copyright discussion is tangential as your copyrighted works will go away with someone's departure. This is control?
I wonder if those who don't feel the needs of ownership of a group could create one with a straw log on. Similar to what Robin did with Help but she shouldn't be burdened with this on a larger scale. Can a straw user login be created to be the group owner and the actual creator be labeled as the moderator?

I'm uncertain of the permissions necessary or if this could happen but throwing it out there.
Pru,
1. Some web site.
2. Only the discussion, never you sweetie.
3. Excellent idea, good way to guarantee sleeping all night.
For me it seems to be a way to insure that I don't sleep through the night.
