Teacher accused of making 4th-graders fight
NYC educator allegedly told them to settle argument with classroom brawl
NEW YORK - A New York City teacher is accused of turning his fourth-grade classroom into a fighting ring.
Queens prosecutors say Joseph Gullotta told two of his students, ages 9 and 10, to settle an argument with a classroom fight.
One ended up with a cut lip, and the other with a bruised head.
Authorities say that when Gullotta finally sent the boys to the school nurse, he told them to lie and say they got hurt by bumping into each other.
He and a teacher's aide who allegedly witnessed the incident are charged with acting in a manner injurious to a child.
Gullotta has been reassigned.
The name of his attorney was not immediately on record.
(Ok--I have heard of the school of hard knocks--but this is taking it to a who new level!!! Or should I say 'In this corner.....'??)

When I was in Jr High the teacher would stop the fight and say wait till PE. Then he would have us put on boxing gloves, by then we forgot what the arguement was about. But we stil had to fight in front of the whole class.

No, if you did not fight at PE with the gloves in front of the whole class both got a paddling by the coach.

When I was in grade school paddlings were very common.I went to a school that had three class rooms with 2 grades in each classroom. There were three Women teachers. They wielded big wooden paddles. I remember getting many paddleings. In Jr. High there was a fight just about every day. It was almost like somebody had a roster. Then in high school it slowed down some. Possibly because we had intramural boxing and wrestling.
Funny thing, In all the fights that I saw and was involved in while growing up, there was never a knife or gun involved.
