I always found the developement of SoHo in NYC interesting. Now I find myself living in a city that is non-violent and has some good hardware and grocery stores , not too far away from a more successful business community. It really is a good place to live, very affordable / tons of potential for creative improvements. An artist colony would be a welcome addition here. If you lived here , what would you try to do to develope jobs and fill the vacant store fronts and houses?

Probably I'd approach a firm that specializes in urban regentrification. I remember alot of that going on in Philadelphia, 25 years ago...but the surrounding slums were so horrendous that I'm not really sure it worked out. What city are you talking about? I am considering relocating my cardboard box, and, it just so happens that I am an artist. Usually a college, teaching hospital or university provides a good market for these dwellings, too.

I remember, back in those days, I'd fantasize about buying a 'shell' (an old colonial) and fixing it up. Silly child, I knew nothing about plumbing, carpendry, electricity, etc, etc. Nice romantic notion, though!
