I understand from a friend who has done so that when you make a service call and get a foreign company like this that you can request to speak with an American and they have to put you through. However, I don't know what that cost if any is.

That absolutely true Sarge, and bingo, you are transfered to someone in the States. I requested an American operator and went from the Phillipines to Ohio. Go figure?

Well, my friends, this is the bad news: the medical transcription services are being outsourced to India. How many mistakes do you think they make when transcribing what your doctor dictated? And how important will those mistakes be in the end?

When my now-ex was going in to have his hip replaced, he was afraid they would do the wrong one after he was under and couldn't let them know. So I wrote RIGHT HIP on a big piece of paper and pinned it to his gown right before he was going into surgery. His doctor came out and laughed, said he would fix it and wrote THIS HIP with marker on the right hip. Then he looked at the file and said 'we made a mistake, it is the LEFT HIP' whereupon my ex started yelling and blah blah blah but if he had been under and didn't know that his chart was wrong, they would have done the wrong hip.

So the question is, where was that file transcribed?
