this person causes the chancellor of the university of california to lose the job in disgrace, the university to pay 630,000 dollars to settle claims for the enfringment of civil rights, not to mention how many dollars in legal fees and the damage to the reputation of the college system...and HE whines that he is the victim cause people said bad things about him when he DID bad things.

Pepper spray cop awarded $38K in workers comp claim

Former police Lt. John Pike, who became infamous after cameras captured footage of him using pepper spray on protestors at the University of California at Davis, was recently awarded more than $38,000 in workers compensation from the university for "suffering he experienced after the incident," SFGate reported.

In the 2011 incident, students were protesting a tuition hike. Footage of Pike's actions (seen in the video below) went viral, resulting in a popular meme, in which people digitally edited photos to include Pike pepper-spraying things and people.

Pike reportedly received more than 17,000 angry emails and 10,000 texts after the incident, according to SFGate.

After the ensuing outrage, Pike was suspended with pay. Citing a database of state employee salaries, SFGate reports that Pike earned $110,243 in 2010. He left the police force in 2012.

In a statement to SFGate regarding Pike's workers compensation, U.C. Davis spokesperson Andy Fell said, "This case has been resolved in accordance with state law and processes on workers' compensation. The final resolution is in line with permanent impairment as calculated by the state's disability evaluation unit."

Last year, U.C. Davis settled a lawsuit with 21 of the students who were pepper-sprayed during the protest. Each student received a $30,000 settlement, according to News10.net. 

In discussing the events, Fox News commentator Megyn Kelly called pepper spray a "food product, essentially," sparking some to suggest she test her theory by drinking pepper spray on the air.

I ran this past my housemate that I sort of want to get rid of because we're just the odd couple. He took the police side in the situation citing the protests from the sixties. Yep my housemate is rocket surgeon/brain scientist. He's prolly sneaking listening to Rush Limbaugh as I write. Send chocolate. The cops told me I have to go get a court order to make him leave. He's got the town convinced that I'm the bad one, he's the good one. Real stasi move if you ask me. I think of it more as an IQ test being liberally administered to the general pop. Interesting to see who passes and who fails. Yes I know in the sixties it was about life and death and today it's about money.
