Hagel and the Obama are giving parts of their salaries back in solidarity with the public workers hurt by the sequstration.  It makes sense.  I hope more follow.  Do you think it's a trend?  Do you think companies will be doing the same with the 400xs more CEO salaries? Is this post about politics? Or human nature?

When did it become human nature ? It's all pertains to politics . It would help more if there wasn't so many lavish dinner parties and trips all around the isle . That would save a heck of a lot of money ... If it was wide spread it could turn into human nature .

which lavish dinner parties? which isle? save money how?  who's money would be saved and how? and how much money?

I would thing it all comes from the taxpayers . Lots could be saved from all those flying hours of Presidents plane and vacations over the years in office . Even Biden is on his third vacation of the year . Sure all President's do it but in these times it should be cut back some . I know that gonna not be a good enough answer , but it's all i got at the moment ....It is good enough answer for some people .....

Taxpayers do not pay for the president or his family's vacations. Did you have the same opinion when W spent about half of his term at his "ranch"?

This is more politics than solidarity in my opinion. I would rather see the Defense budget slashed and make sure no defense weapon is made outside the USA. (no parts either)

now that would be good sense....after all if, for example, the military uses hummers and, since china now owns the hummer brand, what happens when we need hummer parts especially if china might be on 'the other side'? plus the logistics of having the parts made in your home country provides employment for your own citizens and assures there is no transit pipeline which can break down or be vulnerable...

shit yeah it makes sense .. i had a buddy who bought a chevy truck .. made in the usa right ?? well .. not quite .. seems he had an accident with it and he used it for work . one of the parts he needed was on backorder but they would fix his truck as soon as they got it .. turned out there was a strike on the docks in l.a. where this part was supposed to be commin in .. the part was made in china .. so his truck sat in the body shop for 6 months till they could get him that chinese part . and he had to keep on makin the payments on a truck he needed for work that he couldn't use .. oh shit yeah it makes sense .. but then with this global economy it just might prevent a war .. i mean we could bomb the shit outta north korea in a minute and nobody would give a shit .. but if we bombed south korea then we couldn't get our samsung phones and big screen tv's and stuff like that .. not that we would bomb south korea but my point is good tradin partners makes bad war enemies don't it ?? what do we trade with iran ?? not a thing .. so of course they are part of the axis of evil .. but throw a few billion a year in tradin in there and see how fast they get to favored nation status ..

actually a little bit funny...the industrial complex that is a sort of joint venture between south korea and north korea is the Kaesong factory complex. the south korean companies have factories there with north korean labor to make those samsung phones etc. the north koreans are the cheap foreign labor for south korea so yep, you might have to wait on that new smartphone if we have troubles

Exactly which part of the military budget would you like to see slashed? The part that supplies soldiers with body armor and equipment for fighting and training?

i'd love to see parts slashed like the new amphibious assault vehicle for the marine corps that doesn't work and the marines don't want but it is being acquired because the defense contractor is in the district of one of the honchos on the military appropriations committee....kinda like awarding the beauty pageant title to a rutabaga

The part I would like to see slashed is the part that goes into the hands of the people who are raking off money right and left. I have a friend who's father died an officer, his dad was a lifetime military officer my friend inherited a home in Hawaii, a home in Virginia, a home in Santa Barbara and about 3 million dollars.

This man was not rich when he joined the military, wonder how he accumulated all that money and those nice properties?

Our defense spending is 65% of the budget, education is only about 15%. Where is all that money going, the military could not account for trillions of dollars. That's the part we need to stop paying for.

yeah you got that right kathy .. you cut some's pay who works at a place like walmart and they only make 9 bucks an hour and walmart won't even let me get close to 40 hours and then cut it by 10% ..if he gets 35 hours that comes to about 315 bucks gross .. cut it by 10% and the poor bastard is gettin 284 bucks gross .. compare that to a guy makin 100 grand .. he gives back 10% he still has 90 grand a year to live on .. its been a long time since i made anywhere near 90 grand a year .. and i wasn't cryin about it ..
