A lawmaker in New Hampshire made a startling comment Tuesday during a debate on a bill that would reduce the penalties for simple assault, claiming that “a lot of people like being in abusive relationships.”

Guess to which party he belongs...

The Neanderthal Party?

LOL...........

there were municipalities that, during the recession, decided the way to trim their budgets was by no longer having police respond to calls about domestic violence. seems slogans like 'to serve and protect' don't apply to all citizens equally...

Just minorities; God Forbid! that the boys in blues don't sever and protect the 1% (from us).

There are many who never have and never will respond to domestic violence. It's something women who are in this situation know very well and know to escape they may have to go to a hidden shelter and in some cases hide for the rest of their lives.

watch this....there is one segment on a woman who repeatedly called the police over a period of months for help as her husband beat and abused her..her husband laughed about it..and the police told her they couldn't do anything cause they were married...her final call to the police was because he was beating her again...the officer dispatched went back to the station to use the bathroom before he bothered responding. the woman was stabbed 13 times...and had her neck broken by the husband stomping her. and they FINALLY arrested him when he crawled INTO THE AMBULANCE to beat her some more as she was being taken to the hospital

Thank yuo for posting this problem.

I am ever thankful for the women who came before me, the struggle continues.

Ithink that I'll see if the D.V. (Domestic Violence) Shelter over in Bath needs help Monday.

This is a serious issue with very serious answers and yes, questions.

If abuse is a learned behavior then this is a social issue, and a issue of social values that are used in the home and in the community which have to be addressed.

Taken as a police matter and having to be dealt with by the courts, only a segment of abuse can be dealt with and only dealt with as incidents are reported, recorded and  prosecuted, at a cost, to the public but mostly to the individuals and families involved.

Of course, to empower those that are abuse we need laws, but the only way to correct the abuse is through support and alternatives which means identification, education and ways to resolve the abusive situation.  And yes, it going to take money, but more than that it is going to take commitment on behalf of the public and all the institutions of society including the media.

Ultimately, this all a manifestation of violence, violence that is a part of our society and a part of the individuals that do it.  And yes, it is complicated, difficult and goes against traditional cultural values, long ingrained in the status of women, in particular, but others such as children, the elderly, certain minorities and others not held in high esteem by others.

i saw that story DD....and i do have to ask a question...the founder of the company claims it was a 'computer error'...so that means there isn't ONE human being who has the f'ing brains to look at their stuff and say "WHOA>>>> we don't do this!!" maybe they need to hire some one with more brains..or is it a case of real funny til someone gets hurt?...

The company may have also had "no idea" that they sold other T-shirts that read: "Keep Calm and Knife Her," "Keep Calm and Choke Her," and "Keep Calm and Grope On."

Amazon.com did not return Shine's calls for comment but an Amazon UK spokesperson said that the "Keep Calm and Hit Her" T-shirts were "not available for sale." In addition, none of the other shirts in question were available by Sunday afternoon.

how bout "Keep Calm and Stop Shopping"?

i think that could be real funny

and maybe more politically correct than "Keep Calm and Don't Buy Anything from Assholes"

yep, I figured that the company line that they "Had no Idea" that they wer selling shirts that said "Keep Calm and Hit her"...then likely-

"Keep Calm and Knife Her," "Keep Calm and Choke Her," and "Keep Calm and Grope On."

etc. stretched their credibility.

 It makes me sick.

On anougther level of disgust they stold the "Keep Calm" part from us ( LGBT folks). It is a old teeshirt saying abuot Love and civil rights..."Keep Calm and Marry On"

Nothing like takeing something that began as a coment abuot Love and Commitment and twisting it into something to promote violence and hatred.
