Keith thank you for reading
“You know, I do believe in magic. I was born and raised in a magic time, in a magic town, among magicians. Oh, most everybody else didn’t realize we lived in that web of magic, connected by silver filaments of chance and circumstance. But I knew it all along. When I was twelve years old, the world was my magic lantern, and by its green spirit glow I saw the past, the present and into the future. You probably did too; you just don’t recall it. See, this is my opinion: we all start out knowing magic. We are born with whirlwinds, forest fires, and comets inside us. We are born able to sing to birds and read the clouds and see our destiny in grains of sand. But then we get the magic educated right out of our souls. We get it churched out, spanked out, washed out, and combed out. We get put on the straight and narrow and told to be responsible. Told to act our age. Told to grow up, for God’s sake. And you know why we were told that? Because the people doing the telling were afraid of our wildness and youth, and because the magic we knew made them ashamed and sad of what they’d allowed to wither in themselves.
After you go so far away from it, though, you can’t really get it back. You can have seconds of it. Just seconds of knowing and remembering. When people get weepy at movies, it’s because in that dark theater the golden pool of magic is touched, just briefly. Then they come out into the hard sun of logic and reason again and it dries up, and they’re left feeling a little heartsad and not knowing why. When a song stirs a memory, when motes of dust turning in a shaft of light takes your attention from the world, when you listen to a train passing on a track at night in the distance and wonder where it might be going, you step beyond who you are and where you are. For the briefest of instants, you have stepped into the magic realm.
That’s what I believe.
The truth of life is that every year we get farther away from the essence that is born within us. We get shouldered with burdens, some of them good, some of them not so good. Things happen to us. Loved ones die. People get in wrecks and get crippled. People lose their way, for one reason or another. It’s not hard to do, in this world of crazy mazes. Life itself does its best to take that memory of magic away from us. You don’t know it’s happening until one day you feel you’ve lost something but you’re not sure what it is. It’s like smiling at a pretty girl and she calls you “sir.” It just happens.
These memories of who I was and where I lived are important to me. They make up a large part of who I’m going to be when my journey winds down. I need the memory of magic if I am ever going to conjure magic again. I need to know and remember, and I want to tell you.” ― Robert R. McCammon, Boy's Life
As do I, Lynn...always have. Some of my very dearest friends are fairies and elves...they help immensely with inspirations for my artwork...

I see some of me there
even tho I have lived on earth
for 70 years I still do magical things
and I do not care what people thing
this morn I woke up to snowfall
and I made a 20 foot Christmas Tree
on the ground and no one noticed
except the visiting children....
I made snow ball and rolled them
for the dogs to chase and gobble up
we must keep some of our magic
or we become withered and brittle

At one time in my life I helped fall, skid and peel
600 Lodge Pole Logs Each approximately 10 inches across
making sure a year or so later we built a very large log
cabin but being up at 3000 feet in the wilderness back
thirty years ago of course there was no electricity, phones
everything was run on batteries except the heating which
was good old fashioned wood either in a barrel stove or
my old wood cook stove, I managed very well and often
had many people up in the winter on snowmobiles as they
always knew they would be welcome to show up at anytime
day or night to be warmed up and have food and drink
One December they were surprised because I had Christmas
lights all around the top windows...lol battery operated ~ Julia A Knaake

When you step off that bridge you just float to the next adventure in your life
when you cross a bridge if it sags in the center just go back to one of the stronger ends and you will be safe to cross there
men are afraid of women too because of similar problems
if you try and fail that is an experience
but
if you do not try it is a failure to experience

Goodbye Addictions
Outside a large six unit apartment building surrounded by a cement block fence Jess Carlton was busily digging a large five by ten pit in the center of the back yard. Jess had been working on this rocky area for days and the work had been slow. He was trying to get to the four foot depth he required and decided to finish it off today by using the rain to soften the earth.
“ George what the hell is he doing out there digging in the rain? ”
“ Hey Larry how ya doing? Told me he was burying his addiction for good! “
“ Addiction, what addiction? “
“ Don't know and didn't ask.”
“ You think Jess's ok then? “
“ Been doing great now since that Liz left him again. “
“ It's been real nice not having her loud foul drunken mouth screaming all hours of the night! “
“ Sure has been nice for him also, mighty nice indeed. He said this time he told her she wasn't coming back here to mess up his life anymore. “
The two disabled Vets, both in wheel chairs, continued to watch their friend diligently work at his task. George saw Jess walking back to the building so he wheeled over to the kitchen area and made a fresh pot of strong coffee. There were rooms for six apartments but only five were in use because the center apartment downstairs was converted into a community kitchen, handicapped bath, laundry and general storage area.
After a nice long hot shower and change of clothes Jess walked into the kitchen greeting his friends.
“ George, Larry thanks for the hot coffee I was getting cold to the bone out there. I'm all finished digging my new barbecue pit. All I have to do is finish a few details then I'll start the plans. Soon we'll all be out there quin' up some good eats! “
The three men sat in silence savoring their coffee and munching on the breakfast pie Larry had made an hour ago.
Jess told the men thanks for breakfast then got up and walked up the stairs to make a few phone calls. George and Larry fiddled in the kitchen getting the food ready for Craig and Roy who'd be down shortly for their breakfast. It had been agreed a few years ago that you cook your own meals, go out for meals or add some cash to the “Big Pig” cash pot in the kitchen for Larry to cook the meals. Larry was an excellent cook and everyone added money for the food he prepared.
George drove Larry to the markets in town once a week for supplies. Larry always grumbled about the loss of really fresh vegetables but Jess said someday that would be no problem.
At lunch time Jess came down for homemade vegetable soup and a sandwich made from Larry's sprout bread. After the tables were cleared Jess asked everyone to stay so he could show them the plan for the backyard.
The large bulletin board on wheels was pulled out and Jess placed a large paper up on the board secured with thumbtacks. It was a diagram of the backyard showing areas such as a garden, picnic area, hot tub area with an area to take a quick shower after being in the garden and in the center was the barbecue pit. Another area had been set up as a place to view movies. Everything was wheelchair assessable. The four men were amazed because all five of them had talked about this dream of a self sufficient living area ever since Liz had left the building.
That was a night all five of them would never forget that's for sure. They had all been in town at a VFW meeting that was one of the longest any of them had ever attended. While they were in town the neighbors that supplied them with fresh farm eggs were awakened by loud noises and foul screaming from Liz and two greasy looking men who were pulling out four old autos out of Jess's backyard. Drunken as usual Liz scribbled a coarse not saying she was sick and tired of Jess never giving her a proper home and she was leaving forever and taking her belongings and his old worthless cars to boot!
Over the next several weeks the plans came to a reality starting with the larger sidewalks laid for wheelchair access and an occasional park bench set on the side grass. Soon the day came when everything was done outdoors except for the placement of the barbecue. Jess called a short meeting of the men and asked them to please bring or write something on paper that they wished to rid themselves of from their life. The next day the ceremony began. Each man sat around the pit waiting for Jess to speak.
He told them that Liz had stolen his sense of self worth. His self esteem, self confidence and belief in himself. He had finally regained what he valued back and vowed to never be addicted to her again.
“ I will start the program gentlemen by tossing in her pictures and lame promising letters to not do to me what she had done in the past also I will ignite the match and set all my addictions to her on fire and thus cleanse myself from her hold on my person. “
Each man went to the pit and tossed in their bad memories and returned to the kitchen area with smiles on their faces. Over the weeks the barbecue was installed, the pit filled with fresh earth and the garden area rototilled for a fresh spring garden.
A year later while having breakfast George and Larry alerted Jess to come downstairs to see what was going on behind the back wall. It seemed like someone was pulling part of the wall down on the other side. Jess just laughed saying that those nice neighbors behind them had decided to sell their property to Jess at a cheap price with a condition. The condition was that they would have a small cottage built for themselves between the two properties but the apartment building they had previously owned would go for more Vet housing connecting to the property Jess owned.
It seemed as though everyone's dreams were becoming reality.
Liz even ended up married to a man who lived in Jamaica who drank as much as she if not more and his mouth was as foul as hers!
Just desserts came into play again.

Thank you much Lynn, with so much abuse towards women these days I thought that there should be a story written for some of those men that are abused by women. Yes it does happen to some of the nicest men.
