Got any tricks up your sleeve?

A letter from my Uncle, with some interesting facts about Valentines day, & my Grandpa who I only met once..

Hi Kathy, Happy Valentine's Day to you also. Valentine's Day is really

special to us because after we both had been divorced for about the same length

of time, we met on Valentine's Day in 1988. From there on we were inseparable.

Historically, Dad did know a lot of tricks, some of which I've forgot, but

the…

Death Sells

I'm trying not to sound holier-than-thou in this discussion. Please bear with me.

I am appalled that TV stations are running endless loops of the actual death of Nodar Kumaritashvili, the twenty-one year old luge slider killed in Olympic practice when he crashed into a steel post at almost 90 mph. As soon as I heard the disclaimer that the footage would be graphic, I stopped watching.…

Gender: Optional

Joseph Romero, a 6 year-old Arizona boy, was diagnosed as transgender last October and is beginning his/her transition to becoming a female. When he/she reaches the age of 12, he will be given female hormones containing estrogen and plans to undergo surgery when she is an adult in order to become a full woman.

In the UK last September, a 12 year-old boy turned up at school as a girl. Over the summer holidays his parents changed his name to a female one and allowed him to don female… Continue

I was on tv . . . !

Sure I was. That was me. Sure. CBS. Didja miss it? I was the murder victim whose race car blew up. It blew up because he was an asshole. That’s me isn’t it? Of course it is . . . in caricature . . . I mean, it was me, wasn’t it? After all, the clown had four fifths of my first name. And the commercial! “I don’t mind when people cut me off . . .”

Ha-ha. Of course not. I don’t mind being cut off in traffic. Not at all. Unless the…

On Knowing The Land

If on a clear day in october there is a single dark puff of cloud on the northwestern horizon....a man sees it within moments of coming outside (that swift eye-sweep of the sky that you find in old rurals, even those ending their days in rest homes and wheeled onto a terrace for air) and guages its probable meaning.

Bouncing through a pasture in a pickup and passing a cow on her left side, he somehow discerns a wire cut on…

White Racism

Although I didn't vote for Barack Obama, I welcomed the election of a black man to America's highest office. I assumed his election signaled that white America had finally atoned for the sin of slavery. I assumed that Martin Luther King's dream of judging a man by the content of his character instead of the color of his skin had become a reality.

No more would I have to spend my life proving a negative, as in 'I am not a racist.' No more would I have to automatically lower my voice… Continue

Creature Comforts

I was without power and heat for 40 hours. I know there are others in my area that are still without it because I just got back from the make shift shelter at the volunteer firehouse. It was so great to get a hot meal, share some laugher about the situation with others in the same situation.

I never thought I would ever go to a shelter, but when I heard about it my mind was made up. I had to wipe some tears away from my son. He wanted to wait it out at home. But one day…

Be Yourself

It doesn't matter how a person responds to a cry for help or to a response from someone who sounds ill or depressed or sad or lonely or angry..The fact that someone takes the time to respond at all is what should matter in my opinion...That is only my opinion...I am certainly not telling anyone what to do....I am just being little old non-perfect me. Show me a perfect person and I will eat my hat.

Just be yourself and if that doesn't work......To freakin bad......screw em if they can't take… Continue

Valentine

This is My Valentine offering. enjoy.

Valentine

I been alone for a long long time

No one sends me no Valentine

But I’m not lonely

I keep myself amused

I find

Falling in Love akin to being abused

And lord knows this weathered heart

Has blown a fuse, babe

And every night

I sing the Blues

Now

I’m not complaining as a matter of fact

I’m quite content

With this guitar on my… Continue

hi all

been a few months since I posted just staying busy trying to survive, with a economy that sucks, jobs that are non existent, more and more taxes looming. Basically cutting back to one meal a day. several days of rain on the way and the ground is already saturated here with 7 inches so far this month. January was rough too. The Marines are hanging all the Marines and their families that were exposed to the toxic water at Camp Lejuene NC out to dry. Cancer has been rampant from Marines and their… Continue
