What comes after the initial YES WE CAN slogan? Looking for the unspoken follow up to this phrase, both positive and negative. Call it the fill in the blank game. Here are some examples:

YES WE CAN...say one thing and do another.
YES WE CAN...vote to raise everyone's taxes and not pay our own.
YES WE CAN...fan the flames of racism rather than judge people by the content of their character.
YES WE CAN...screw things up just as much as the Republicans, but in a different way.
YES WE CAN...what?

Agreed. But, will ANY politician EVER provide us a better tomorrow? Or will they selfishly pursue their own dreams of power and dominance over the masses?
But Wylde, even if what you say is true, Does that mean that we never attempt to make changes for the better? Shame on you, I thought you cared more about others human beings than the things that you post regarding HealthCare?
I considered myself a Democrat all my life...until this election, when I really started listening to both sides. I simply don't agree with the ideas that the left promotes. I don't think that change for the sake of change is a good thing...how about improvement? Obama never promised improvement, he simply promised change. I could "change" and become a serial killer...would that a be a good change?
So do I understand you to be saying that the previous administration was so good that you wanted to keep Bush and Cheney in charge. Surely that is not what you mean.
No, that isn't what I mean. I didn't vote for Bush AND I didn't vote for Obama. I always vote for the one who doesn't win. Besides, I don't see how Bush and Cheney could have stayed in charge, as they can only run for two terms and their time was up. From my recollection, McCain was the Republican candidate in 2008 and he's the one I voted for (but, my memory isn't what it used to be. Maybe Bush and Cheney were running for a third term and I misread the ballot.)
You really have me pegged, Jacquin. I'm such a Neanderthal...bitterly clinging to my guns (don't own any) and religion (don't practice any)...while I sit around writing poetry and children's stories and making artwork out of cardboard. I'm such a regressive creep. I don't listen to both sides and try to make an educated judgment based on my knowledge and experience and personal values...I just follow the party line, like a good little soldier.

I think my real problem is that I feel personally responsible for my lack of success in life. I have this crazy notion that if I can come up with a great idea for a product or a book or something, that people will buy it and I can create financial security for myself. I realize this is wrong-thinking. I'm not financially unsuccessful because I have made some poor decisions, it's the world's fault. I know I'm supposed to blame everyone except myself, but I keep thinking that I'm in control of my own destiny. I'm so unenlightened and unevolved, it's sad.
Also, I love the idea of everyone having fabulous health care. However, I don't trust ANY politician or government to provide that. It all sounds good in theory, but I honestly think that if this thing goes through, there will be a REDUCTION in health care. How do you keep costs down? By DENYING treatment. Providing more treatment to more people will INCREASE costs and they keep saying that they intend to bring the cost of health care down. What exactly do you think that means?
One way or another we'll be paying. Either monetarily or through reduced services or both. Of course on the other hand some of the healthiest people in the world, Sweden for example, have all their health care government provided. May be some of the Canadian members can provide some of their experiences.
I so wish we still had Kudos
by taking away the control over life and death from the insurance industrial complex!
and giving it to politicians? awesome idea!
Nope. I completely agree with you, TobyRow, let's give all control over life and death to the politicians. I'm not sure how happy you'll be when the "other" party regains control at some point, but as long as the party you support is "currently" in control, you should be okay. Let's just hope that when you need the health care, the party that is trying to win your vote is making the decisions.
