We had beautiful (if hot) weather all week while one of our sons and his cousin were here. They got the pontoon boat ready for the summer for us before they left but we're both too tired to take it out.
Rain forecast every day for the next 8 days. The garden is doing well but our sandy soil doesn't hold moisture well so the rain is welcome.
Hope everyone is ok & enjoying the warm weather.
Torrential rain late yesterday but should be dry & lower temps today. Lower means highs in low 80s. One of our kids will be here this week so we're hoping for dry weather & good fishing. Happy weekend, everyone.
Morning Seashelly, Sailspinner,
I have no clue what this yrs weather is going to be! Even the local forecasters don't agree...............
What I can say is, the rain amounts, and frequency of rain occurrences is down over the past month!
All I have to do is watch the flow rate of the creek in the front yard!! It normally flows well into June, and if it's a hot yr, will go dry in Aug / Sept. In the past several days, it has really slowed down probably 60 - 70%. So we'll see what happens in the upcoming weeks. As we continue to have "Thunder Storms" through the local area, they are very localized.
Last night I was over at a friends house in Barrington, and we had a torrential downpour for 15-20 minutes. When I got home, we hadn't received a drop. Yet south of us, they had over an inch! So go figure...
The grand kids will be over today, and I hope to do some work outside. The challenge is going to be keeping the Munchkins out of the "Bubblier" fountain and the Creek while we play... LOL
Cheers!!

Rained here late yesterday & last night. More rain expected this week & we need it. Your garden sounds good, Shelly. El nino is shaping up so that will change summer expectations - fewer hurricanes & a relatively cool summer here in the south but I didn't notice what the forecast is for Ohio.
Happy Memorial Day!
Hi and good evening! Dry, sunny and the humidity is on the rise here. We were in the mid 80's here today. I was planting flowers in my pots this evening. I got my 1st. mosquito bite. Not bad. I hope tomorrow it rains so they will get a free drink..LOL! I still need to plant my veggies. I planted marigolds and wave petunias. I also planted some asparagus fern for filler. Hope my flowers take off...and last. I heard on tv that this is going to be our hottest Summer in a decade. HMMM? Has anyone else heard this?
Enjoyed my Holiday off today...hope everyone else did too!
Cheers!!!!
You'll be due for a nap this afternoon, Al.
I think working at a garden center would be a terrific gig. Wish we didn't live so far out so I could have a part time job like that. But we like where we are &, at this stage (our doc tells us we aren't in the last quarter of life - we're in overtime), another move isn't in the cards or even inviting.
Our son is finishing renovations on the pontoon boat this weekend so it may be ready to use next week when our middle son is here for a visit.
Hot & dry here of late. We heard a lot of thunder yesterday & last night but got only a few drops of rain - not enough to wet the grass. Guess I'll water the garden again. This is the best garden I've had in the 6 summers we've been here so I'll tend it carefully.
Happy holiday!
Morning Sailspinner...............
Well, it's 3AM on Memorial Day, and I'm wide a wake!
Weather is great here in the Midwest for a change, and I'll be working the Garden Center gig from 6 am till noon! Then it's off to a friends house (i.e. another veteran) and we're going to have a small cook-out!
Finished the area behind the house for now! ow I just have to order a couple of trucks of mulch to fill in!
As for the weather, this spring has been WET. Trying to plant stuff has been difficult as the dirt is one big glob of mud if you try digging a hole to plant stuff. Both the plants and the weeds have been happy with the additional water, and both are in a race to outgrow the other.....
Will be able to spend time outside in a couple of weeks as the grandkids will be staying at home as school will be out as the daughter-in-law is a teacher...
Hope to have the yard back together this yr. but only time will tell!
Cheers! - AL
I love day lilies but your idea of hostas & ferns sounds delightful.
Thought you'd get a laugh from the headline of the May 13 paper from Woodland Park, CO. "What a fine winter we're having this spring". That sums it up well.
Hi Sailspinner!
Well the snow is gone, and everything is in a accelerated growing spurt!
My days have been starting at 4-5 AM, work outside till the grandkids show up around 7:30 AM, Mom pickes them up around 2:30 PM, then I'm off to the GC till 7-9 PM.
Between watching the grand kids, trying to work in the garden center, I haven't had any spare time to speak of! With school almost out, the grand kids will be staying home, and the GC dig will be over July 1st.
So I'll be able to spend some quality time working outside. So far I've removed ALL the old lilies from a large bed, and replaced them with ~ 100 ferns and some Hosta. Was a real treat transplanting them ,but so far so good!
My plan is to re-do all the major flower beds to get the flower scape "Home Owner Friendly" so I can place the house on the market next yr! Don't want to scare off any potional home buyers......... - LOL!

Happy holiday weekend, everyone. I though surely by now surely spring has arrived even in the northern tier but if Al had snow a week ago, I'm not sure.
My sister & her husband just left after a pleasant visit and we had beautiful weather the whole time they were here - highs in 80s, lows in 60s. Haven't checked weather for the weekend yet. We could use some rain.
Hope everyone is doing well.
