By this time of summer the garden begins to look a bit bedraggled even though it's still producing. Days are hot and muggy and a/c is on all the time. I look forward to Sept. when days are more comfortable and we can turn off the a/c at least part of the day. This summer hasn't been a bad one (knock wood) but it helps me appreciate and look forward to fall. Hope everyone has a pleasant weekend.
Yes, that's a little early, but at that elevation, doesn't surprise me! Now why are we talking about snow in August?? Haven't split my firewood for this winter!! - LOL!
AL
Had an email from a friend in CO last night. They were expecting 3-6" of SNOW on Pikes Peak. In August already. Strange summer!
Morning Gang!
Well, the weather folks have changed their minds once again! Suprise, Suprise!
The rain that they had been forecasting stayed north of us once again, and rain has been basically removed from our forecast for the rest of the week!
Chief, looks like our temps will be in the low 80's today, however it's FOGGY and overcast at the moment!
Bruce, several yrs ago, we had so much rain, we were thinking of looking for the plans for the "ARK" to start building one. Then last year was a serious drought, and now this yr. out temps have been way below normal, so go figure!!!
AL
Hi Sailspinner!
Yup! Not only that, a lot of the plants in the garden centers are going moldy as they keep watering them to try and keep them alive, and it's been cool to cold with little to no sun!
Cheers!!
AL
At the rate you're going in your part of the country, Al, you'll be shoveling snow pretty soon. whew. Hard to believe 60 degrees in early Aug. there. This is global warming?
Welcome to the group Bruce!
Auh, the wonderful dog days of summer! Yesterday had a community svc. project to work on! Was raining like hell on and off all day, and was working with heavy coats on under rain gear! Spent lots of time waiting on the rain and lightning to stop!
Lets see, it was August 5th. temps in the 60's with heavy rain and fog! After several hrs we decided to throw in the towel, and call it quits... What ever happened to SUMMER????
As it was raining, we were talking about when things are getting you down with the garden stuff - Just remember, we're loosing just over 2 minutes of sunlight each day (from our longest day). Just a sign to show winter is not too far out. Next thing we know we'll be shoveling 6"+ of snow and warming up our cars.
Maybe I'll feel better if I go work on the snow blower for this winter! - LOL
Hope the weather is better for everyone else, as it's starting to drizzle again!
Cheers! - AL
This definitely is the dog days of summer. She goes out, takes care of business, and immediately returns to a/c. Any outside work gets done early morning or evening or it doesn't get done. Humidity is 80-90% and so is the temp. Typical GA summer day after day.
Last night we had potatoes and green beans out of the garden. Cucumbers and tomatoes are producing as well. This is the first time in the 5 summers we've been here that my garden has done anything at all. Soil analysis last fall was the best $8 I ever spent!
Hope everyone is doing well. We're approaching the height of hurricane season - mid August through mid Sept. - so we'll see what happens. Hurricane Andrew was the first hurricane of the 1992 season and it arrived mid Aug.
Hi, Bruce. Glad to have reports from NC. We lived in New Bern for several years before coming to central GA and have a soft spot for NC. I'm thinking Matthews is in western NC in or near the mountains. Is that right? It's 88 here now but humidity is low so it's not too bad - unless you have to be out in the sun too long.
It is a pleasant Saturday, just checked and I see it is 80 WARM degrees,Yay!! Lots of sunshine and pretty blue skies! The morning rain missed us. That is ok, cuz we had some heavy rainfall just a couple of days ago. Al, sorry to hear about the car problems...I hope it was an easy repair. Sounds like the car and YOU are happy!
Happy Saturday & Enjoy Your Day!
