It is fall, indeed, Chief. Ripe persimmongs have begun to drop so yesterday we rigged screening to catch fruit before it hits the ground & the dog, foxes, and deer get it. Seems to be working. Began raining last night & has rained most of today. More rain expected tomorrow too so we've put out our trip to town until the end of the week. The only thing we're out of is wine. Oh well . . . I'm fussing with my computer because it's very slow but it's a good day to do that.
High temp of 68 today & nights have been cool. Love it!
Like your comment about "in the grand scheme of things". I need to be reminded from time to time.
Fall is here. Temps still get into the 80s and humidity is high but leaves are beginning to fall, the grapes on the fence and persimmons in the tree have begun to change color. Friends in CO are out of immediate danger but roads are closed due to mud slides and flooding, requiring 2 1/2 hrs. to get someplace that should be 45 min. away.
Hope you all can enjoy a pleasant fall.
By the way, the Extension Office diagnosed the problem with our plum trees. Every county has such an office but sometimes I forget to ask for their help. They might help you too with problems with lawn, trees, plants.
Bruce,
Wish you could! Day time temps have been below normal, and overnight temps have been COLD. We've been waking up to it being 70 degrees inside, so one of these days I may have to turn the heat on!
Today is overcast, and has been drizzle all morning!
Got an email from a friend out in CO and it doesn't sound good for them at all. Have to run, my battery is about to shut me off!
AL
Ops, the temp is going DOWN, like down to 46 Degrees as reported my the news media!
Sounds like time to get firewood ready .............

Hi Chief!!
Ya, it's been one large roller coaster ride weather wise this yr. It was 50 degrees overnight, and today will be in the the 70's today and for the next several days....That's like 30 degrees lower than it was earlier in the week!
Once again they are talking rain in the upcoming week. Ya, right. The rain they promised up this week never materialized............ So the drought goes on!
Hope everyone has an enjoyable weekend!!
Cheers! - AL
Hi Sailspinner,
Ya this year sure has been wacky!!!!
We're running above normal temps, but it's great news to here that we are half way thru the hurricane season and haven't had any severe weather at all!! Have some friends down in FL and that don't travel and leave home this time of yr. as they don't want to be away from home should bad weather hit!
Pulling the weeds when it's so dry outside leaves a lot to be desired, as not all the roots come out!
AL
Sorry your wife has had health problems, Al. She's had more than her share this year. Glad she's doing better.
As forthe weeds/grass thing, maybe the weeds are better at soaking up the moisture grass needs? Maybe deeper roots - have you tried to pull some of those suckers up?
We're having typical Sept. weather. This hasn't been a bad summer at all and we seem to be drifting into fall easily. We've been lucky while the rest of you have struggled with extremes. It will all even out eventually.
Hope everyone is doing ok. Looks like the hurricane off Africa will downgrade itself ok. Almost past the peak hurrican season (mid Aug. - mid Sept.) & nothing. That's unusual.
MorningBruce!
It's intrsting that the temps out west get so high, but with no humidity it's really tolerable. Yrs ago, had a couple of jobs out in Phoenix and it was running 110 - 115 degrees. Being from St Louis at the time, we didn't think it was a big deal, and would go out for daily walks. The locals thought we were nuts!! - LOL
So enjoy the local scenery, food while your out there!
PS the temp is 68 degrees and it's 8:25 AM
Actually the hospital food was GOOD! A guest can order off the menu and get anything delivered to the room for $10 at any time!!!! Best dishes were Northern Salmon with sauce, Casedias (?), Steak and Shrimp. Personal Pizza was good, just 2 small. Then I found out I could order 2!
As for the weather, around here last week it was brutally hot, with temps running in the mid 90's, high humidity. Once again we are approaching a serious drought conditions. This time this yr. we should have had 4+" of rain the past 60 days. However, we've received a little more that 1 1/2" - 2" depending on where you live. Some local areas are less............... Go figure!!
Cheers! - AL
Hi Gang!
Sorry I haven't been around as of late. My wife was admitted to the hospital last week as a result of a bad infection in her upper leg. Hospitalization was required as she required medication every 8 hrs for three days and could only be done in the hospital! She is now home and will be receiving additional medication for the next week or so!
As for the weather, I've been hiding under a rock as of late, as it's been so hot the past week! Temps have been running 10 - 15 degrees above normal. So everything has gone dormant and slowed down. ( Me Too!)
Now a cold front has come thru and we went from the mid 90's down to the 70's and 80's.... Now I can think about going outside and tackling my WEEDS!!!
Now I would like to know WHY weeds will continue to thrive during hot weather where our grass goes brown and plants wither and dye???
Cheers - AL
