Good Luck Sailspinner,
Saw the news clips of the ice storm in GA this AM. There were several shots of people basically going no where. However, their FRD cars, the front wheels must have been going 60 MPH+ and going no where. Looks like people are going to be stuck in place for the next 24 Hrs or so..... Not a good situation!
So I hope you can stay home and warm for the next day or so. As it looks like it would be nuts to try and go out in that stuff down there!!
AL
Morning Sailspinner....
Well I'm happy to report it's only 49 days till spring.
Sounds like you folks in in GA really got hit with lots of ice. Hope things warm up soon, so you can get out and about! Received this email from a friend down in FL. Now don't laugh to long.....
"My Scion is sealed under a thick layer of ice because I did not go anywhere today. Pretty cool considering I've never seen this before in Florida. The icicles are cool looking. Pensacola bridges are closed.
A serious question, however, due to the weather change for these two days. How do I get into my car when it is underneath all of this ice? The door handles do not move and the seams around the door jambs are sealed with ice. I'm afraid of breaking the plastics of the vehicle."
As for us, we are having a heat wave. The temps have risen to 0 degrees, and our wind chill is now running -15 degrees. Looks like we will be receiving 4-6" in the upcoming in the upcoming 7 days. Happy days are here again. Oh, now wait, Now would you believe that just a yr ago, we were basking in the sun, and the temp was 63 Degrees............ LOL
I hope Chief and Seashelly are OK and staying warm these days.............
Cheers - Al
Al, back in Indiana we heated the house with a wood stove - no other heat. Farm Bureau wrote our insurance for the house & contents, so we moved our car insurance to them too to bundle the insurance for a savings. Worth a try. People dependent on propane for heat are hurting for sure and cutting back on electricity when temps are so low isn't viable either. Sounds like this is about a rock and a hard place.
I depend on you to keep the count on days until spring. (Gives you something to do while you're holed up.<smile>)
Morning Sailspinner.............
All I can say, is I can't wait till spring! Only 50 days, LOL!!!!
Winter is no longer fun. Up north we are running out of LP gas. Some folks haven't been able to get resupplied, and costs have sky-rocketed!!
Then this morning, the local power grid group is asking uses to cut back on their use, as the grid can not handle the demand.
This is not fun. Wish I could have a whole house wood heter, but the local insurance companies will not provide home owners insurance. So all I can do is use our fireplace to "supplement" our heat!
OK I'll get off my rant!!!!
All I can recommend is to sit down and take it easy during cold spell and do stuff around the house. And don't go outside...... It's not me I'm worried about. It's all the other nuts that are out on the road! So I've spent my new spare time, watching the fireplace glow, cleaning out computer files, updating software, drinking lots of coffee and tea, and snoozing on the couch (in front of the fireplace)
AL
As I sit at the computer I can see out the window to the north & the sky is dark grey. The weather radio is warning of ice, 1-3" of snow, and everyone stay home. Around noon the snow should start and we're just waiting to see if the freezing rain misses us. Should last through tonight but temps tomorrow won't get much above freezing.
Tomorrow is the drop dead day for the decision as to what day to play the Superbowl so plenty of people will be be waiting for that as well. Glad I don't have tickets to that game.
Well, I'm finished!!!!!!
This weather is nuts!!! Temps were - minus early this morning, now it's up to 5 degrees (heat wave), only to plunge by noon to - 8 to - 10 degrees, with winds picking up, with blowing and drifting snow!
Cheers!! - AL
Morning Sailspinner!!!!!!!!!
LOL - Evey day I pick up the mail, we're receiving seed and plant catalogs....
Well, I think I'm in the eye of the storm before the weather plunges.... I was outside, the temp is -5 degrees outside, there is NO WIND, and it's very calm. So it's time to fire up the snow blower, and go tackle the snow. Should be finished in a couple of hours. My cardiovascular workout for the week! - LOL!
Look at the weather map for the week, looks like this cold weather is going to head deep into the south! Hope your able to stay on the warm side! As we're looking at wind chills that are going to be in excess of -40 degrees.....
Hey Chief, hope your hunkered down and ready for the nasty weather that is heading your way!
And think, it's only 52 days til spring! - LOL
Cheers! - AL
GA is having a particularly cold winter for the south. This weekend we have a couple of days when we get up into the 50s before a week of highs in the 40s & one in the 30s. That probably sounds pretty good to Grandpa & Chief but I'm wishing we still had a wood stove like we had in Indiana. Nothing is as warming as a wood fire. How many days until spring? Get out the seed catalogs & afghans and settle in.
Hi Chief!
Same here! However, it's about to get worse........
This coming week, we will be seeing daytime temps as low as -8 degrees, and overnight temps as low as -15 degrees and with the windchill, it will only be worse!!
Have lots of fire wood available in case we loose power, but that will not be enough to really keep the house warm. So we just cross our fingers....
Hope your able to keep warm!
AL
LOL !!!!!!!!!!
glad to hear that someone is having good weather!
It's been colder than hell this week , and it's getting colder. Then 3 seed catalogs show up today!
