TBD

TBD on Ning

For those of you who didn't know, I'm a volunteer DJ at a local
non-profit radio station here in the frozen wasteland of Central
Illinois, and I'll be doing my annual Valentine's Day show on Sunday,
February the 14th.

Which gives us some time to try something new this year. Try using this thread to send me a request, a particular song that you'd like to have played for that certain someone, the secret sweetie, the main squeeze, the apple of your eye, the one that makes you tear your own hair out. (Getting the Object Of Your Affection to actually listen in is, sadly, out of my hands. That's your job.) We can even work on the dedication itself. (All of which can be discussed through PM's, in case you're planning to spring something on a fellow TBD'er. Discretion is a virtue, even if I barely practice it myself.)

But - and there's always a "but" - My station has no library of music.
Everything will have to come out of my own personal collection or what I can scrounge by the show date. And I have extremely, uh....esoteric tastes. (You can see examples of said "taste" right Here , and then we can discuss what's available until we find something that suits your fancy.)

Now, git a move on, you lovebirds. We've got only 23 days to figger this out.

(By the way...For those of you who are thinking of suggesting the
Police's "Every Breath You Take" - You do realize that song is being
sung by a stalker, not a lover...Right?

Right.

Just thought we'd clear that up from the get-go.)

Well, to get the ball rolling:

You're My Favorite Waste of Time - Marshall Crenshaw

Good pick, Jake - But who do you want me to dedicate it to?

That's the main thing I'm going for this year.
Oh, ok. Dedicate it to Susan H.
Got it. Yer On the List.
BTW, which radio station will you be broadcasting from?
www.wqna.org

I'm on Sunday nights, 6:00 - 9:ish, CST

But not tonight. Goin' to St. Louis to see Yo La Tengo.
OK, we're doing better here. 14 days to go 'til V-Day. Any other requests or, uh, desires?

Along with your own, I've gotten requests for Nick Drake, Todd Snider, Ian Hunter, Van Morrison, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Loudon Wainwright and the Beatles. (I myself shall be offering up some Lyle Lovett and a few other things.)

(You'd be surprised how many married men request Guns'n'Roses "Used To Love her (But I Had To Kill Her)".)

Not a bad playlist at all. It's working out like a little experiment in "listener-supported radio" that involves contributing ideas instead of money. I may have to hammer that into some other, less appropriate holidays...
