The 105th World Series Championship Series! New York Yankees vs. The Philladelphia Phillies Game 2

So the Phillies had thier game of fun in game 1--causing them to lead 1 game to zip! How the heck did Cliff Lee only have a 14/13 season??? Even I have to admit he was awesome last night! He remind me a lot of Ron Guidry!
But that is all in the pass, now isn't it? After all this Is The Yankees we are talking about...and there is no way they are going to let that happen again--Right? I mean--RIGHT? (Oh gosh--why do I already feel I might be watching most of tonight's game with my eyes close? Shut up heart!! Postive!! Think positive!! They are The Yankees!!)

Game 2 takes place in The Bronx--It begins at 8 pm.

Tonight's starting pitchers are

For The Phillies:

Pedro Martinez

For The Yankees:

AJ Burnett

(Yep!! I got a 'hotness' factor picture for Mellymel to look at so she can pick The Yankees tonight! It is a cheap ploy--but anything to help The Yankees out!)

Can you say A.J. Burnett and 22/25 first pitch strikes? After that, he was usually able to get the first out as well. Like Sabathia yesterday, Martinez was good but Burnett was just a little bit better. I actually couldn't believe it; he never lost his composure once even after getting the lead. He was just locked in. I also thought the catching change was good as those two have always worked well together. That throw by Molina to get Werth was a thing of beauty not to mention how Texiara fielded it on bounce and went behind the runner. The play by Ibanez in left was spectacular as well. Where are the bats of Damon, A-Rod, and Cano? Matsui had been there too but his home run today was huge the way Burnett was pitching.

I felt like the Yankees showed they are capable of keeping pace. What I also like about what I've seen in these two games is they are basically pitcher's duels where each pitch keeps you riveted. One swing can tie it or change the lead. These games seem like throwbacks to an earlier era. It has been said of both teams and the winning and losing starters - the loser was good but the winner a little bit better. It reminds of the Koufax/Marichal years where Marichal would win 24 games and Koufax would win 27. The Cy Young always eluded Marichal by whisker. That's sort of how I feel about the losing team's performance (Yankee bullpen excepted). For that matter I'm not sure the Philly bullpen is that much better. Wait till those kids grow into next year though:)
I have to agree with u APPS--The Yankees can not win this thing without 'the big bats'! It is amazing to me that A-Rod especially have been silent--considering the big divisional series he had that silent up the doubters. Here is now in The W/S and he struck out 6 times in 2 games?? I sure hope he and the others good hitters gets a pep talk today by the coaches---because we still got at least 3 games to go--and I think the Phillies fans are thinking they could win this thing! :P
Of course A-Rod isn't the only one but like Jeter (who is doing okay) A-Rod is seen as one of the leaders who is supposed to be the example to those who may be struggling. He also has as you mention the double whammy of all the past failures in the play-offs. Well all I can say is game three will be interesting. This might also be a chance for Pettitte to really leave even more of an imprint on his Yankee career and baseball. Through the years he has been a little more of a big game pitcher than some of the others as he is reputed to be a stopper.
