Cover Of The Day:

"Everybody's Been Burned", never a single, released 2/6/1967, by the Byrds, on "Younger Than Yesterday"

Thin White Rope's version comes from a 1989 various-artist compilation, "Time Between: A Tribute to the Byrds"

Today, in Musical History, February 7th, 1973: the Stooges release No.3, "Raw Power"

53 years old, in a world that has seen pandemics, tsunamis and earthquakes, political and religious violence that kills thousands and thousands, appalling corruption and depravity -
and it still scares the hell out of people.

Bizarre, ain't it?

Cover Of The Day:

Speaking of scaring the hell out of people -

"The Thrill Is Gone", #3 R&B, 2/7/1970 (B.B. KIng)

The inimitable Diamanda Galas brings the death-opera boogie to it, on her 1996 album "Malediction And Prayer". Uneasy listening of the highest order. Not for the timid.

Like sliding down a banister studded with razor blades. It's bloody but thrilling.

Today, in Musical History, February 8th, 1964: The publisher of "Louie Louie" offers $1,000.00 to anybody who can find "suggestive" lyrics in the song.

So far, nobody has ever claimed the reward - Despite a lotta moral panic and outrage among "defenders of decency", who always need a bandwagon-crusade to jump on.

Cover Of The Day:

"Lights Out" (Mac Rebennack / Seth David), never charted; released 2/8/1958 (Jerry Byrne)

The Pirates tore through it on the 1983 expanded edition of their 1977 comeback album, "Out Of Their Skulls"

Today, in Musical History, February 9th, 1947:

Joe Ely, b. Amarillo, TX

I know, I know - It's Tex-Mex, not Puerto Rico -

But, considering the ignorant racist furor over Spanish being sung/spoken at the Super Bowl last night, this feels apropos.

I didn't watch the Super Bowl. Considering your comment. I'm very thankful I didn't. My blood pressure is already high enough.

I didn't watch it either, as I don't give a toot about the Super Bowl OR Bad Bunny -

But, by all accounts, his performance was, at least, life-affirming and joyful, while the "redneck safe-space" version, starring "Hillbilly Vanilli" Kid Rock, was fucking AWFUL.

(The rot at the center of right-wing "culture" is beginning to stink so bad that it's impossible for even them to ignore; Claiming that they had over 5 million "viewers", while more and more investigations reveal that probably 4 to 4 & 1/2 of those "viewers" were 'bots, is really no different than the desperate, ourtrageous lies being spewed about the miserable box office for the "Melania" movie....)
