"RABBIT, RABBIT, RABBIT"........it's November! How time flies!

Are you finding time to indulge in a good read? I am sooo enthralled with Jodi Picoult's LEAVING TIME. Am finding myself mulling over the story when away from it. Just like an elephant, I won't forget this one!

As I always do on the first of the month, I borrowed another free book as part of the Amazon Prime lending library.  This month's selection is "My Sister's Grave" by Robert Dugoni.  http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00K2EOONI?btkr=1  My system for choosing among thousands of books is simple, I generally borrow one of the top book selected by others.  I have been a Prime member for about two years and have enjoyed all my selections but one that I returned after reading a few pages.  I figured if it didn't cost anything, nothing was lost but time reading a book I didn't enjoy and I only have so much time for reading.   I will almost certainly read the Picoult book as soon as I see it on the shelves of the local library (either public or my Retirement Complex Book Exchange).  I have read just about all of her books over the years.  I recall two great elephant books I have read in the recent past:  "Water for Elephants" and "A Son of the Circus."  The later is a John Irving book when he was turning out some of his best literature.

PRESENT!

I'm just popping in so I will get notifications when members post. Struggling thru an Audiobook which I selected because of the Reader. He did "Mr. Mercedes "by Stephen King so figured he would be in demand by only the best Authors....WRONG! "Crimes of Memory"~L.J. Sellers but don't lock it into your memory! Anyway I will be done with it tonight (with any kind of luck) Believe me if I had another mystery on hand would grab and go.

Did get an old Harry Bosch today at Library " Lost Light" from 2003 and by looks of CD's it has been enjoyed many times! I had attempt a mop up with electronic wipes and maybe have to give to Dan'l to put on the magical Clean Machine. Looks like they had Pepsi spilled all over and lots of Cheetos during their last encounter with a Listener???

Have a dozen books on order but in meantime have read in hardcover a bunch of "make me smarter" non-fiction regarding increasing willpower, how to make smart changes, better investing strategies, Dataclysm....all about networking on line, Slim by Design (author was on DOC OZ and amazing lab work) The Organized Mind...and all I want is "some beach, somewhere!" Probably because of the drugs to kill pain of implants!!! A small splash of Tito's does help, too!
Leave the light on for me.~ct

I am not starting toward winter too well on the reading list.  Just read a Dean Koontz  book - the Darkest Evening - not a fan of his but with this one I am willing to read another of his.  Now reading an old book Scotoline's - Mistaken Identity.  I also am trying a book about the Russian army 1917 to present.  Do not know much about Russia and want to learn a little - exercising the old gray matter is good.  My garage runneth over with books friends have given me - so I will be reading a lot of their picks.  Hope to have a book sale to raise money for our Parkinson's caregivers group.  Hope I get a lot of the good ones read.  I am still listing all the good suggestions from this group - have a lifetime reading list I need to get finished in next few years LOL.  Thanks to all who contribute here.

BOO HISS!!! I'm having abandonment issues! Where is everyone?

THE DROP...Dennis Lahane...kind of a "guy" book (Russian Mafia...Hero is bartender...but falls in love with a puppy and...Gal trying to escape the "life") but I couldn't put it down.

Tried The Perfect Witness by Iris Johansen...sorry... zzzzzzzzz not enough reality for my fantasy book life....lol

Thanksgiving on the horizon...any plans..... "Families; the ties that bind and gag."~Irma Bombeck
Thanks, Carolyn, for kicking butt!!!!! I've been consumed with caregiving and therapy appts. Thurs. Himself's having a barium study as he's been choking on water.
Did thoroughly enjoy Jodi Picoult's LEAVING TIME. IT's one book that I will reread later purely for pleasure! Today picked up John Grisham's GRAY MOUNTAIN. Anyone read this?

I've booked us flight to Utah for Thanksgiving. Our son and family live up mountain in Heber Valley near Park City. One granddaughter arrived home Sat. from spending 18 months in S. Korea. We FaceTimed and she looks terric!!! Will get to meet great granddaughter, Scarlett, for the first time. She's almost 18 months old and communicates in English, Spanish and sign language. Loves her books!!!! Perhaps she can help me with my iPad!

Anyone else have plans?

I'm into New Orleans...

Many novels have been written about New Orleans over the years.  It's also been the subject of plays and TV programs.  I've enjoyed the old Southern charm and esoteric culture over the years and am now in the middle of an excellent novel about the city's history.  "The White League" by Thomas Zigal is just such a story. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005Z23U0K?btkr=1  Keeping with the theme, I have "A Conspiracy of Dunces" and "The Moviegoer" also lined up.  http://www.amazon.com/Confederacy-Dunces-John-Kennedy-Toole-ebook/d...  http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004TLVNH0?btkr=1

Lesser les bon temps roller!

Hey rapa. So you need help with an Ipad. Well, I recently bought an Ipod and am having an awful time getting it to do what I want it to do. In fact, I'm on the edge of returning it and getting my money back. Perhaps it's just a matter of modern technology being too much for me.

I just finished reading something called Eyes Wide Open by Andrew Gross. He is an OK thriller writer who often becomes carried away trying to twist the story all around in the final few chapters by highlighting the action. This book was a good example of that. There are other authors who do this as well, and I often think they do so in order to sell the movie rights.

Now I am waiting for a library call on a book I reserved called Sparks by John Twelve Hawks. According to Wikipedia John Twelve Hawks, a pseudonym, is the author of the 2005 dystopian novel The Traveler and its sequels, The Dark River and The Golden City, collectively comprising the Fourth Realm Trilogy. The author's real name seems to be unknown. Makes it interesting; things like that don't happen often in the modern world.  Anyway, I read all three of those books a few years ago and enjoyed them. So I will give his new one a try.

Actually, Loruach, I'm more in need of help with the HP laptop I bought in April. It's WIN 8.1. Today I picked up WINDOWS 8.1 FOR SENIORS for DUMMIES. Hopefully it will be helpful as I've been depending solely on my iPad which has become my constant companion.

I have been depending a lot on the "for DUMMIES" books, myself. My computer is an IMac and "IMac for DUMMIES" has been in frequent use.

RAPA...My iPad is on life support as well. Went to Library where the Tech Gurus tried to problem solve, then went to AT&T store and Reps tried to make it happy, happy. Still freezes up so guess Apple Store visit tomorrow and then trade in for the new iPad Air.

Got Edge of Eternity by Ken Follett...holy cow...how does he do it! Intimate connections along with major events of the timeline??? LOVE IT and I'm only on disc 1....

FLOWER...probably my favorite AudioBook of all time is One Door Away from Heaven by Dean Koontz...I have one other (name not available) of his to recommend. (Think of it while brush the teeth at 7AM?) Not like the Odd Thomas series, however.

RAPA...what a great name for Babykins! Something tells me she is gonna be a force in the future!
Snowvember going on in Cleveland and the burbs. Sigh....some beach, somewhere!

Just finished Wayfaring Stranger by James Lee Burke, a very good book and well written, but it left me a little depressed, but books do that sometimes. Four books came in that I had a on hold: Deadline, Personal (Jack Reacher),All the Light We Cannot See, and Windigo Island. Gotta read them all in 21 days. The weather is supposed to be very cold until Thanksgiving so sounds like a good time to read and munch on pre Thanksgiving stuff.

What a windfall, Slopok!!!!! Curl up with a toddy and enjoy!
