TBD on Ning

I have a Mercury Sable (not the car I was rear ended in) I just found out it might need a new transmission. My Galant (the one I got rear ended in) has 279,000 miles on it and never had a problem, just normal maintenance.  The Sable has 65,000 miles and this happens???  Any one know what a transmission costs?

A lot. Go lease a car for $189 a month and never have to worry about such things again.  I've leased since my divorce because I didn't want to be a single woman traipsing all over the place in a car that might break down.

I think I might keep this car this time if I don't get in an accident with it before the lease is up.

I would say a brand new one would cost anywhere from 2000 to 5000 dollars . Rebuilt a lot less . Junkyard probably half of what a new one would cost .

Just Guessing . A friend had his transmission replaced for 2800 dollars at Earnhardt Chevrolet . for a new one .

Crap, not good, not good at all. This car looks brand new, always been garaged and well taken care of.

what year is it dwalt ?? you could do a google and see what comes up in your area for transmission shops .. my best guess tho is it would be north of 2 grand .. but then if they give you a good warranty you should be good to go for another 65 thousand miles or so at least .. and then again it could be somethin else .. did you check your transmission fluid ??

Thanks for all the info ya'll.  The car is a 2003.  I have a friend who has a friend that is retired but has a shop at his house and I'll take it to him.  He was a mechanic at a dealership here for 25 years.

that sounds like a good alternative dwalt .. nice to have friends ain't it ??

Well AAA tows it tomorrow.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
