just watched a short documentary about marilyn monroe and after more than 50 years people are still facinated by her .. why ?? was it just because she was so beautiful ?? i'm sure that had a lot to do with it but there was more to her than that .. she seemed to walk that line between madonna and whore and vixen and damsel in distress . ( she probably didn't do the madonna part all that well actually ) but there was a certain vunerability and sadness about her that made guys want to be sir galahad and rescue her .. the thing is she was a lot smarter than most people gave her credit for and more talented too ..she could act much better than hollywood ever gave her the chance for .. pretty much just throwin her them dumb blonde roles .. and she could sing pretty good too .. she had a sort of lilt in her voice that few girls ever had .. it makes me wonder if she had the chance to concentrate on her singin how far she could have taken it .. the right songs , the right producer .. i think she could have done really well .. i'm sure she could have portrayed that sad damsel in song so well that you'd believe it ..

here's a song that if you close your eyes you could imagine marilyn singin .. it fits her personality ( damsel in distress ) and the times she lived in .. it sounds more like 1962 than 2012.. and this girl kat edmonson has that marilyn quality .. maybe not her looks ( not that shes bad lookin cause she ain't ) but she seems to have captured that vunerability .. what do you think ??

and here's another one that you could imagine marilyn singin .. again its that kat edmonson girl .. she has that lilt in her voice that marilyn had .. and that insecurity .. you can see it by the way she's standin there .. and it also sounds like it could be 1962 ..

ok , i guess by now you figured out that i found a way to hijack my own thread .. whoda thunk i could do it .. yaaay .. not sure why i'm so happy about it tho .. all i get is the fur lined bathtub .. but seein as i'm way off track why not one more from this kat girl .. this one is a bit more upbeat and sounds like .. well a little later than 1962 .. maybe 1969 or somethin .. but she still has that lilt in her voice like marilyn and had marilyn lived i think she could have sang this one too .. i like the drums and the guitar in this one .. and she likes that vibraphone or is it called a xylephone ?? it fits in this song .. what do you guys think ??

I thi9nk that what Monroe really symbolized was the impermanence, and unreality, of youth and glamor - NOBODY stays young and beautiful forever, and those who base their entire lives and self-respect on those kind of values generally do not come to a happy ending. She was more an open nagging question of why we place so much importance on something so transitory and meaningless.

i agree its transitory but most of us only realize it when we start gettin old . and only when we realize how old we are does it start to become meaningless .. beauty is somethin we've all tried to capture at one point or another in our lives .. those who can't accept the fact that beauty is not infinite do come to unhappy endins .. and some of us go off kickin and screamin till we do .. but in the end age will get to all of us . but you see it everyday .. the 50 year old guy who gets a convertible sports car hopin to catch that cute 25 year olds eye .. or the 50 year old housewife gettin botox to try to stop the clock .. of course in the end its an exercise in futility but so many do what they can to stave off old age .. who wants to be 50 and look like they're 50 if they can look 40 ?? and there's billions of dollars to be made by the people who will try to sell you youth in a bottle or at the end of a scalpel .. how much money ya got ?? somebody will promise you anything you'll believe to help you part with as much as they can get their hands on .. and if you believe it they'll keep sellin it to you .. i agree that at some point marilyn would have had to accept all that , but at the point that she died she was what 36 ?? so old age still wasn't a reality to her yet .. in 10 more years it would have been a huge concern .. she died tho because her life was a mess . and it was the beauty that brought that all about .. that and perhaps the kennedy's .. careful who you climb in bed with .. sad how it all turned out tho .. she was like a modern day helen of troy or somethin cause she could have launched a thousand ships had she spilled the beans about everything that went on ..

anyway my whole point for this post was to say that marilyn had a good voice and could have probably been a singer if she had persued that path and it was also a way to introduce everybody here to that kat edmonson girl who i think has that marilyn vibe goin on .. a little sneaky maybe but i think she's worth it .. whats wrong with a little shameless plug here and there ???

i always wanted a shameless plug....but i may be too grounded...

my take on marilyn was that she had such an appeal to men because she blended the innocent waif that made you want to protect her with the luxuriant sensuality of a tousled fresh from bed fullgrown woman. it may have been an act but it was a great one. in fact if you go back and watch something like 'some like it hot' from 1959, she still carries it off without the character becoming dated and uncomfortable to watch. that's a pretty amazing thing to be able to do 55 years later.

frenchy, kat edmonson is sort of a descendant of the late blossom dearie...that little girl voice and yet more...

yeah this blossom girl has that breathless kind of voice too like marilyn had .. but marilyn had that sort of lilt to her voice that most can't duplicate .. but this kat girl can .. and just watchin her onstage she exudes that vunerability that marilyn had too.. i'm not really sure what her real personality is but to me her body language leads me to believe that .. as if she needs help or approval which i doubt she really does.. she's doin pretty good on her own ..but it makes that torch song seem so much more convincin .. and makes you wanna find the asshole who made her hopelessly blue and thump that sucker in the nose ..

She looked like I wanted to feel always--blonde, sexy, tousled, easy in her skin, sure of her woman-ness.  Her appearance belied who she was inside.

She died young, therefore, she is preserved--we never saw her get rings and bags  under her eyes or botox to freeze her face. We still see her as she appeared in all those photos and movies.

another thing....monroe was a size 12-14...none of this size 2 stuff..as i said, a full grown woman all curves and hips and round stuff

and i agree with you too problem .. marilyn was not some skinny runway model ..she was a real woman ..  i'm not sure who the guys are that really dig that shit but i'm not one of em .. i see them runway models and it makes me wanna get em a greasy cheeseburger a large fries and a big giant vanilla shake .. or two of everything ..

i agree cresty .. marilyn will be forever young .. never a day older than 36 .. more than likely if she had lived and we got to see her age a lot of the bloom would have come off the rose so to speak .. or as neil young sang .. its better to burn out than to fade away ..

i don't think she killed herself either pat .. she was about to spill the beans about the kennedy's and her affairs with both jfk and bobby .. they couldn't have that so she was what you'd call collateral damage ..
