An Arizona rancher and Republican congressional candidate said during a primary debate Saturday that the vast majority of mass shootings in the United States are committed by Democrats.
“If you look at all the fiascos that have occurred, 99 percent of them have been by Democrats pulling their guns out and shooting people,” Gary Kiehne, who is running for the state's 1st U.S. Congressional District, said during Saturday's GOP primary in Florence, Arizona. “So I don’t think you have a problem with the Republicans.”
When asked how he would protect gun rights, Kiehne, a hotel owner and member of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association, said he probably owns more guns and ammunition than any of his fellow candidates ("I'm from the country; it's a long ways to town to buy ammo," he said) and that "everyone should own a gun."
The Arizona Daily Star posted audio of Kiehne's remarks on its website. About 60 people attended the debate, the newspaper said.
Kiehne's campaign office did not immediately return requests for comment.
Kiehne is running against Arizona State Rep. Adam Kwasman and House Speaker Andy Tobin in the Aug. 26 primary election. The winner of the primary faces incumbent Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick, a Democrat.
Arizona's 1st Congressional District, the largest in the state, does not include Tucson, where in 2011 a gunman opened fire, killing six people and wounding 13 others, including then-Arizona Rep. Gabrielle Giffords.
The Democratic congresswoman suffered a gunshot wound to the head in what prosecutors say was an assassination attempt.

The ~40 white power skinheads for the Constitution claimed last week at their demonstration expecting 30 million to show up at the Lincoln Memorial that if the Democrats win both houses the Democrats will start killing Christians.
And they claim Hillary is mental ...
there is a certain amount of seemingly mental illness amongst the far right conservatives that allows them to cry about being victims of a war on christians if they can't discriminate against people of other faiths or even offshoots of their own faith. the same mental illness that fails to comprehend that the term 'public lands' does not mean that you can do whatever the fuck you want and whine about big guvmint if you can't overstock range, fail to pay rental fees, ride atvs thru critical habitat and historical sites while waving flags from that guvmint that you don't trust to begin with but you are yessiree patriotic. the same mentality that feels if they don't get their way, that their constitutional rights are being taken away cause it is their by gawd right to look down on people who ain't just like them. the fact that the only people they associate with are generally clad in camo and ballcaps leads them to believe everyone, at least right-thinking true amuricans, believes just EXACTLY the same way and the world outside of that bubble doesn't trigger any realization that they live in a little insular world. for them, everyone else is the enemy and that triggers such a xenophobic reaction that they can't think logically enough to realize that people of other colors, religions and beliefs have the same rights under the constitution as any good old boy with a bible and a gun
this isn't the first time in our history that circumstances have given rise to a tribe-like xenophobia. generally that mood and sentiment follows along with economic uncertainty which gives rise to the existing jobholders fearing the newcomers because, regardless of how much they may say the boss likes them, they do realize at least subconsciously that the boss will shove them off the pier along with his grandmother if they can get the labor cheaper from some other group. thus in the past we had the 'no dogs or irish allowed' signs. as a businessman in houston informed me once: "if i can't get john to do it cheap enough for me, i use tyrone or paco. that usually puts them all in their place"
coincidence:
Today in History
In 1913, California Gov. Hiram Johnson signed the Webb-Hartley Law prohibiting "aliens ineligible to citizenship" from owning farm land, a measure targeting Asian immigrants, particularly Japanese.
In 1921, Congress passed, and President Warren G. Harding signed, the Emergency Quota Act, which established national quotas for immigrants.
Over the past few months, the new U.S. education standard known as the "Common Core" has attracted its fair share of negative attention by opponents.
But Florida Republican State Rep. Charles Van Zant took the Common Core critique to a new level by claiming that the educational initiative promoted by the Obama administration will turn your children "homosexual."
Van Zant made the comments at an Orlando education conference back in March, but the video of his remarks went viral on Tuesday. Van Zant told his audience that the American Institutes for Research (AIR), that implements the Common Core in Florida, "will promote double-mindedness in state education and attract every one of your children to become as homosexual as they possibly can."

"Please go on their website, click the link to what they're doing with youth and you will see what their agenda really is," Van Zant implored his audience. "They are promoting as hard as they can any youth that is interested in the LGBT agenda."
Van Zant added, "I'm sorry to report that to you, but you need to know."
Van Zant is hardly the only vocal critic of the education initiative. Conservative radio host Glenn Beck recently called the Common Core "evil" and equated the standards with "slavery", saying that "if you can no longer critically think, then they can do whatever they want. I mean, this is slavery, they are breeding an entire new generation of slaves."
Really?
First of all, AIR is not a Federal program. It is an education nonprofit that will be conducting Common Core-related tests in 10 states.
It just so happens that AIR also researches and creates support materials for LGBT students.
Only in the obsessive paranoid mind of the right wing extremist is this proof.
in the obsessive paranoid mind of the right wing extremists, everything is a conspiracy. the moon and stars logo from procter and gamble is proof they are muslims. everything is orchestrated by the rothschilds and the new world order....there was even one dingbat a while back that was complaining about an ordinance in her town that precluded gardens from the front yard and stipulated lawns. that person declared it was an executive order from obama that covered the entire country and was aimed at making us buy all our food....she denied that the town council was the responsible legal entity
