I was in a car accident yesterday afternoon...a three vehicle collision... somebody hit the person behind me who then hit me..I didn't hit anybody..traffic was bumper to bumper in a school zone..and I was at a crosswalk with kids crossing the street.. Thank goodness I was able to slam on the brake hard enough so and didn't hit any kids...Got my heart to beating pretty fast though. I could barely walk when I got out..was pretty shaky.

My air bag exploded..I've never one go off...how exciting!!
My seat belt tightened up and grabbed my chest..of course it had to be where the port is so I had to go to the ER to have it checked. and there is some leakage so something nicked a vein or ripped a little...Anyway, I'm supposed to get my body scans tomorrow so I'm going to also have surgery to repair the port...always something isn't it?

Nobody else was injured...my bumper got a black scratch..the lady who got sandwiched between got the most damage...rear and front..but the kid who caused the accident got it the worst..his bumper got jammed into a front tire.

Mostly, no harm no foul..all in all....that's the way I like it.

It had been more than 20 some odd years since I had been in a car accident...and I've never caused one...

Wow! Glad you are OK.  Probably going to be sore for a while though.  Just glad you are OK.

You are lucky you were able to brake in time.  Imagine how you would feel if you hit a kid on top of everything else? And I am happy you did not get hurt, except for the damage to the port.

I've gotten into a few accidents, fender benders, always in traffic that is stop and go.  My last one was three years ago. I was fiddling with my radio, and BAM, right into an SUV which made my Sentra at the time look like a anchovy can all rolled back.  Nothing happened to the SUV.

I remember once, right after I was divorced and totally on my own and proud of myself that I was doing OK.  I had just leased a nice new shiny black Altima, and was going someplace with my daughter. When we stopped for the light--BAM!  The car behind me smashed into me.  I remembered the Irish saying about how the little folk will get you if you get too complacent!

There were kids right there in the crosswalk...elementary...little ones and they were waving and then BAM..was very scary...The idea off hitting one of those little one...yikes!
When I got to the ER...I was in tears...sobbing...they thought I was hurt..it was the though of almost killing a child...nightmare last night..I can deal with stuff with me but not a child or someone I love.

Same here.  I can imagine how upsetting it was.

The other night I went the wrong way on the highway--and I wasn't even drunk.  I realized it way into my journey. I made a U-turn and am surprised I didn't get hit or hit anyone else.  If someone else's number was up and I was the deliverer of the bad news, OMG, I don't know what I would have done. Niether my number nor anyone else's number was up that night.  We all survived my distraction mistake.

so very glad you came thru that ok, ms v. but dammit quit living in exciting times ok?

OMG Blithe, you got my heart pumping just thinking about hitting a little child. I'm so glad that didn't happen but it does make us think about what could happen when we're out there.

This sounds crazy but three of the four accidents I've been in have been while I was at a complete stop at a light or stop sign when someone hit me. The 4th was on an icy bridge I was third in line getting hit from the rear I think I did slightly graze the bumper of the truck in front of me. The cop who came to investigate the accident also slid halfway across the bridge so he didn't fault anyone.

Don't be thinking what might have happened, it would make you crazy.  Be glad it was you and that you had the quick sense to slam on your brakes.  I am just glad you weren't hurt any more than you were. I hope the procedure to replace the port goes smoothly.  And good luck with the scans.

Good to know you're relatively unscathed. I've been in too many car accidents for me to not appreciate how rare that is...

glad you're ok vickie , i been in a few car accidents and they can really shake you up .. none lately tho .. unless you wanna count one of them barricades they have up when they're workin on the road with them blinkin lights .. nailed one of them suckers about 8 or 9 years ago when i saw a kid ridin a bike so i was payin attention to him and wouldn't you know it .. another kid came outta nowhere while i was watchin kid number one and to avoid kid number two wizzin by on his bike i took out the barricade instead ..it was just about past sunset and the kid didn't have any lights or even light colored clothing on .. he's so lucky he didn't join the angels that nite ..  i can still see that little light blinkin at me just layin on the ground as i drove away.. and i just left it there blinkin like that .. sometimes i think i'm just a horrible horrible person .. but ... i got over it ..

Geez Frenchy...a close call for you too..almost hitting a kid..
My nightmare the other night......
I heard this noise in my garage and opened the door from the kitchen into the garage and turned on the light...and I saw a child hung up in my front bumper...the visual was horrific...something from a Stephen King novel...shivers..

yeah not exactly the kinda hood ornament you'd want vickie .. altho i wouldn't mind havin a naked lady in the pose of doin a swan dive .. but then .. how would i keep her on there if i made a sharp turn or somethin ?? could get a little bit tricky ..
