Somewhere In Time , Place

If you had a chance to go back in a time period and live one year with option to stay , would you ?

Where in time and place would you like to experience ? Maybe it could be in Medival times , Civil War times , Walton's Mountain , "ya might meet John Boy", Old Western times , Bibical times . Great Grand parents times ?

I use to have this recurring dream when I was growing up, I can tell by my clothes and the car it's in the 50's.  Anyways, I'm on the hood of this yellow ford thunderbird car with a bunch of friends, laughing, listening to music.  Next part of the dream we are driving fast and we are in an accident, I die.  I must have had this dream over 100 times.   It just feels so real.  I would like to go back to the 50's and see what it was like, did this teenage girl really exist.

When I was a little kid, I wanted to take examples of modern-day technology with me, back to the days of the great thinkers and inventors - da Vinci, Guttenberg, Curie, Copernicus, Newton, Marconi, folks like that - And show them what we have done with the ideas and theories they had, just to see what they thought of it all.

Imagine how Galileo would react to the International Space Station and the Hubble telescope, or da Vinci to the Internet. Newton to quantum physics; Shakespeare to television and chat rooms; Hamurabi or Solomon to the complexity of modern law and legal theory; Mozart to minimalist composers like John Cage or La Monte Young, as well as reggae or free jazz; Ramses II or Richard the Lionhearted to the spread of both democracy and socialism; Genghis Khan or Alexander the Great to modern warfare......

Who knows ? They might have a perspective on those things that we could desperately use these days...

But I never wanted to live in any of those times - The disease, the ignorance, the brutality...No thanks. I'd like to visit those times, as well as pre-human history, but I wouldn't want to stick around.

A Connecticutt Yankee in King Arthur's Court. I, too, wanted to go back to some period in the long ago past, and show and tell them what we have done. Now, however, I know I probably would have been accused of being a witch, an alien, a sorceress.....and burned at the stake or something. :-). I have had a (somewhat) abnormal interest in the Civil War period of time. Now I find myself living on the one piece of land where more American blood was spilled in battle than on any other. I have visited battlefields, campgrounds, museums, and libraries. I own several books, most of which I've read at least once. And I finally realized a dream I've had since I was a child; I went to Gettysburg. Something strange I've noticed as I've aged.....as pleased as I am that the war was won by the North, and slavery was abolished.......I have the weirdest "connection" to the South. I have a girlfriend who believes in reincarnation. She says it's because I lived in the south in those days. I don't know what to make of that. But I would like to go back.....just for a week.....to see for myself, and maybe figure out why I feel that strange connection.

ehh .. i'm not sure .. if i could know what i know now maybe the early 50's if i could be 18 or 19 .. or maybe to israel if i could speak the language somehow back in the time of christ .. but i'm not so sure i'd wanna stay .. tough livin back then .. but if i could come back then i'd have some things to say about what it was really like ..

as far as reincarnation goes a lot of people have that feelin like they've been here before .. edgar cayce was one .. so many unexplained things ..

I would go back to the year before I married the sociopath and change that scene so it is forever wiped out of my past. I wouldn't stay after that year is over I would come back to being me here and now.

if we went back tho and changed the past wouldn't that also change the future too lifey ?? that whole time space continuum thingy and stuff no??

I would go back to my childhood for one year.  It was just so nice... I would choose summer and our three week stay with all the comares and their kids in a boarding house with  two bathrooms on each floor and kitchen privileges in Atlantic City before the casinos; the fathers would come down on the weekends.

Or my Uncle Ernie's bungalow with an outdoor pump for water and an outhouse in the woods of Long Island-Lake Ronkonkomo, with so many cousins in each bed at night I wonder how we ever got sleep.

Or Christmas at my house--decorating the tree with my brother and sister and music and my brother's friend Vig who was an only child and liked the chaos at my house. 

Or visiting my Nonna and Nonno who lived in Brooklyn, then driving through NYC on the ride home, stopping to look at the Christmas tree in Rockefeller Center. 

Or saying good bye or hello to the constant flow of relatives coming to or going from America at the docks in NYC and traveling on the Queen Mary and Andrea Doria--my cousin and I explored those lavish ocean liners until the whistles blew for us all to de-board; then we'd stand on the dock and everyone would throw confetti as the ships pulled out to sea. 

I loved my childhood.  I would go back and SAVOR it for one year.
