Today my hangout buddy/neighbor for the last 5 years left to live permanently with her son in sunny Phoenix, AZ. I've had 8 months to get used to the idea, but I'm still saddened by not having someone to talk to at the end of the day (the cats don't count), discuss news events or tv programs, go to the mall together, etc. I have tried to find a replacement at church & the local senior center but no luck yet. I do volunteer work but there's no one there my age or close to it. I'll miss her!

Thats tough, my best friend moved to NC many years ago. She was my all around friend, we did everything. Now I tend to have friends that I do this with, another that I do that with, but no real all around friend. Then my other friend moved to Iowa in FEb. last month my neighbor and my friend from Iowa and her friend from ARk had a girls week-end in Branson so was good to see them again. My neighbor is pretty good and willing to do anything I plan, but she never says-boy I'd really like to do this or that, whet ever I plan is ok.She babysits for her grandchild so is not always available.
As we grow older, it really is difficult to meet and make new true friends. So it's so very important to nurture the friendships that we have.
I feel truly blessed to have made a few really good friends in the last couple of years - friends that I know will last the rest of our lives. Friends that I know I can call upon at any time of the day or night, in thick or thin...what ever circumstance. I know that they will be there for me, and I in turn will be there for them!
Carol, sorry to hear this. I hope you'll be able to visit and see her. I once thought that when my best friend died that I'd never let myself get close to anyone. Much to my delight, I have found someone I'm close to again. I also have other friends that I see, but the connection is different. Hope you find a good friend to keep you company. You're pretty active, so you'll do fine.
thanks for the encouraging words. It's the searching that sort of wears you down though.
There's a new song sung by Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton called, "You Can't Make Old Friends".
So true.
That sounds like a good song, Karin. I'll have to look for it.
