the most romantic movies you probably never saw

well i saw cresty's post about the most romantic movies ever and it got me to thinkin .. so i did a google and a yahoo search to see what their lists held .. and none of them were exactly the same .. sure most of em had movies like the notebook and gone with the wind and sleepless in seatle.. but its amazing how different they all were .. but most of em were all movies most people have probably seen .. no,,nobody said the criteria was popular movies only .. and maybe thats what they meant and i just didn't get the memo?? or maybe some of the movies on my list were just too much of a sleeper to be included ..

so what makes me an expert that i can make a list ?? well quinten tarrentino said that he knew movies so well because he worked in a video store .. well i owned a video store and while its nice to know movies , as the owner you have to know what people will like or you won't be in business long .. i didn't make it as long as i did cause i didn't know movies .. not knowin what hollywood was gonna do next is another story and thats what killed the video store industry ..

so here's my list of the most romantic movies that you probably never heard of .. or if you did they didn't make any of the lists i looked at .. and i looked at a lot of lists .. i'll post em one at a time in no particular order and you guys can comment on them if you've seen them or would like to .. i'm sure netflix probably has most of em or if you have movies on demand, put em in your queue .. you'll thank me .. i promise ..

first off i'd like to say that guys and girls are different when it comes to movies .. so sometimes if they can disguise a movie like an action movie you can drag your significant other to the theatre with you .. this is one of them kinda movies..

scaramouche .. stars stewart granger and janet leigh , a very young janet leigh i might add .. and mel ferrar as demaine .. he's such a villian .. 

the story takes place in france right before the revolution and let me just say this movie has a little  bit of comedy , a lot of action , there's a swordfight at the end that eroll flynn could not have done better .. and there's romance .. its a bit touchy at times tho but there's romance .. and any guy who see's it will think it was an action movie , cause it is .. but its also a romance .. 

ya know with all the remakes hollywood has made i still can't figure out why they never remade this one ..

next is the owl and the pussycat with barbara striesand and geroge segal . ..ok i'll be honest i saw this movie in about 1970 when it first came out .. by accident .. it seems they changed one side of the marqee and not the other and my girlfriend pleaded with me to please stay anyway .. i wanted my money back but i sat down and watched it .. to make her happy .. and then a funny thing happened .. after 10 minutes i didn't want my money back .. never saw it commin .. striesand was so good .. and who knew she was so pretty ?? i think i fell in love with her right then .. and this is the most screwball couple you'll probably ever see .. but it shows that no matter what , sometimes love is just love .... and you can't fight it ..

I loved The Owl and the Pussycat, and I've seen Scaramouche and enjoyed it, too.  One I remember crying my eyes out over was Robin and Marion with Sean Connery and Audrey Hepburn, and The Nun's Story with Audrey Hepburn and ... can't remember the doctor in that one, but I felt a love affair there!  Thanks for the memories!!

next is cousins with ted danson and isabella rosellini .. two star crossed lovers who were the ones that never wanted to paint outside the lines or jaywalk .. they were just two people who never thought they could get so off the rails in love because after all they had families and other people they had to be loyal to .. this was made right around the time of cheers and sam malone could not have been a bigger tv star and that in itself was a blessing and a curse .. because in this movie he is nothin at all like sam malone .. i think this was an oscar winnin performance by him .. unfortunately i don't think hollywood was gonna let him outrun sam malone so all the film got was some great critical reviews .. but for those that saw it .. this is one of the greatest romances of all time by two people who never would have tried .. or to put it bluntly like danson says in the movie .. i'm tryin to make some chicken salad outta some chicken shit ..

next i have one with meryl streep .. but its not gonna be the one you think .. nope its not bridges of madison county .. its defending your life .. with albert brooks ..from about 1992 or so about two people who die and go to judgement city and have to defend their life . their trial lasts a few days so they get a chance to walk around judgement city and enjoy the place before they get to either move on or get tossed back again .. this is a wonderful movie .. and if you don't shed a tear in the final scene then you have a glass eye .. nuff said

next up is a john wayne movie .. and a female lead that only had one name .. cappucine .. and she is breathtakin .. this is also a bit of an action movie with some comedy too but don't be fooled .. its the best romance movie john wayne ever made .. it also stars stewart granger who was in scaramouche as george pratt his partner and a very very young fabian .. anybody remember fabian ?? and lets not forget ernie covacs .. who plays the biggest roach you ever saw .. and does it so well .. fast frankie .. i can't understand why hollywood never remade this one either ..

next up is starting over with burt reynolds and jill clayburg .. this one went so far below the radar because burt is not the burt you usually get to see .. this guy is full of anxiety and self doubt .. and had his wife ( candice bergen ) throw him out .. he does his best to pick up the pieces of his life and moves to boston to be near his brother played by charles durning who is also a shrink .. and he sends burt to a group therapy for divorced men .. at times it will remind you of one flew over the cuckoo's nest but not quite that crazy .. this is a gem of a movie and never got any play because it goes soooo against the type we know burt to be .. he don't shoot anybody or beat anybody up .. he does get to act tho and he does a great job in this one .. the scene in the furniture store is so funny yet so real .. or the scene where he shuts off the light in his new apartment .. maybe i related to this one so well because i had a pretty similar experience ..

next up is STARMAN  with jeff bridges and karen allen .. i always loved her since i saw raiders of the lost ark and she doesn't dissapoint in this one either .. this one is sci fy all the way tho but even from world to world , there is still love .. this one is not the conventional type .. but its a romance anyway .. and worth the time ..

next up is JUST LIKE HEAVEN  with reece witherspoon and mark ruffalo .. she's a dedicated young dr. that never had time for a life of her own and then has a terrible accident that puts her in a comma .. he's a guy who just wants to hide from everything and ends up rentin her apt. as a month to month thing only to be haunted by her ghost .. its a very odd love story in that they can't really touch each other .. but .. its still love .. and when you see this movie you can feel it . it will remind you a bit of ghost but i think its better .. weather you will or not too?? who knows ?? but i think you'll like it either way ..

next up is 12:01 .. it stars jonathan silverman .. this one is a bit like groundhog day in that each day repeats itself but its a lot more sinister and it may have actually been made before groundhog day but i had so many movies commin in my store at once that i'm not certain .. sometimes exact dates escape me .. and its not a very big movie .. but its a good movie and it keeps you interested .. a bit sy fi but not overly so .. all the guy has to do is save his girlfriend ( who doesn't even know he exists ) from a murder that he has no idea why its gonna happen .. and he has to do it all in a few hours .. and oh yeah it works a lot better if he can get her to fall in love with him so she will trust him and not think he's a nut so he can save her.. sounds simple don't it ?? yeah i thought so too ..
