TBD on Ning

well i saw cresty's post about the most romantic movies ever and it got me to thinkin .. so i did a google and a yahoo search to see what their lists held .. and none of them were exactly the same .. sure most of em had movies like the notebook and gone with the wind and sleepless in seatle.. but its amazing how different they all were .. but most of em were all movies most people have probably seen .. no,,nobody said the criteria was popular movies only .. and maybe thats what they meant and i just didn't get the memo?? or maybe some of the movies on my list were just too much of a sleeper to be included ..

so what makes me an expert that i can make a list ?? well quinten tarrentino said that he knew movies so well because he worked in a video store .. well i owned a video store and while its nice to know movies , as the owner you have to know what people will like or you won't be in business long .. i didn't make it as long as i did cause i didn't know movies .. not knowin what hollywood was gonna do next is another story and thats what killed the video store industry ..

so here's my list of the most romantic movies that you probably never heard of .. or if you did they didn't make any of the lists i looked at .. and i looked at a lot of lists .. i'll post em one at a time in no particular order and you guys can comment on them if you've seen them or would like to .. i'm sure netflix probably has most of em or if you have movies on demand, put em in your queue .. you'll thank me .. i promise ..

and how can i have a list of romance movies and not include this one ..  DAN IN REAL LIFE ..  about a guy tryin to raise three daughters after his wife dies .. he meets the girl of his dreams and there's only one problem .. she's his brothers girlfriend .. this one is funny , sad , touching , smart , all the things a romance movie should be .. and the middle daughter is like a perfect reverse barometer to himself ,, until he stops to actually listen to the words commin out of his mouth .. i'll admit i'm not a big steve carell fan but he's perfect in this movie .. and juliette binoche as marie couldn't be better .. if you want a real romance movie this is it ..

here's one that didn't make any of the movie lists and i'm not sure why .. PHENOMENON  with john travolta and kyra sedgewick .. some of you may have seen it but just in case you missed it i think it deserves to be on somebodies list of best romances so i put it on mine .. if you didn't see it then you should ..

here's a little movie that came and went without much fanfare but its a great romance movie if there ever was one .. kind of like a throwback to the days hollywood and his gal friday .. just a little more up to date .. but not much ..

HE SAID SHE SAID  told from two different points of view and it can be funny and truthful at the same time .. yup , men and women are different and this film points that out .. again and again and again .. but its worth a look see .. kevin bacon was good but i have to say i've never seen elizabeth perkins better ..

and last but not least is another one with meryl streep .. nope its not bridges of madison county either .. ITS COMPLICATED ..  this one is really funny and stars alex baldwin and steve martin too .. and believe it or not its alex baldwin who is the funniest not steve martin .. this movie is only a few years old and its about tryin to meander your way thru loves pitfalls and dead ends after 50 .. and its hilarious .. it truly is .. one of the funniest movies i ever saw .. but under it all .. its a romance too .. and of course there's some frivalous sex thrown in just to keep you awake .. if you missed this one put it in your queue right now ..

so that sums up my bakers dozen of romance movies that never made it on anybody elses lists .. let me know what you think if you've seen some of em .. or make an effort to forgo that brand new movie for once and get an old one , cause if you haven;t seen it yet ?/ then its still new to you ..

I have seen Star Man many times .

I love this movie!  I was very upset when it wasn't given more publicity.  Most people I know never heard of it.  You are right; it is well-written, and well acted.  A love story for grown-ups.

My comments aren't coming up anywhere near where they were intended.  I am referring to Starting Over.

you and me saw startin over karin .. we might be the only two who have .. but it was worth it tho wasn't it ?? burt ain't nothin like burt in that one huh ?? maybe if he had tried to do more dramatic roles he would have gotten some of them kinda roles later on like as good as it gets or the bucket list that jack nicholson did so well with .. i think he's as good an actor as jack but just got caught up in bein the biggest box office draw of the 70's and 80's doin them stupid cannonball run and smokey and the bandit movies that they just wrote him off ..

Not only did I see Starting Over and really like it, I liked it so much, I got the video, lol!

Loved Defending Your Life.  And Two other John Wayne movies that were romantic: The Shootist and Rooster Cogburn.  Katherine Hepburn's speech to him in the end...sigh...

Speaking of Hepburn.....one of my favorite love stories with her is The African Queen.

LIst??  Nothing showing up, Frenchy, at least not when I checked!

I think he is putting them up one by one.  I love stuff like this.
