Do you think it is time to end the embargo on Cuba and normalize relations ?

Can't see where there is a threat to us anymore . I think it is time to forgive and forget . Why should Cubans have to do without modern things in the world ?

If i am wrong set me straight

Yes, the ebargo is bad for both the U.S. and Cuba. Most of the embargo is about the old grudge from the fact that Castro overthrew Batista, a dictator that was backed by the U.S.. As others are pointing out there is as strong group that used to own land and plantations under Batisata and hope to regain their estates from the Batista days as part of any deal. We also still hold Guantanamo which is part of Cuba. But modern global communications and travel is eroding the embargo and travel bands and the U.S. is losing out to European countries and others that are trading with Cuba.

I don't understand why we're holding that grudge, the US forgave Germany and Japan after WWII and helped build back their economy. It is ridiculous to pick on this tiny country for so long. Makes no sense.

yeah i think so .. enough is enough already .. and here's the thing .. at the moment castro is still in control either behind the scenes or thru his brother but if and when they die ( and at the ages they are , like 77 and 80 respectively i think , i could be off by a year or so ) there's gonna be a big power grab which can only hurt the country . .. if you've ever studied 7th grade history you'd know that when a dictator dies or is deposed it creates a power vacumm that sets in motion so much upheaval .. who's in charge here ?? i am, no i am, no i am , and the next thing is fightin in the streets . so even if its just for a smooth transition of power i think it would be the right thing to do .. because the time is commin , and probably sooner than we think .. if we're at least in there we can help guide them thru honest elections .. or as honest as one of ours is anyway ..

You mean our elections are Honest , Ha Ha ....

Not when you have the Supreme Court decide for the person who would have lost.

yeah .. i know lifey .. sigh .. which is why i had to add that little addition at the end ..

Ah, those honest elections are not all they are cracked up to be.  We had perfectly honest elections in Vietnam in 1967 but in the end the U.S. didn't like the guy so we had the CIA asassinate him. Doesn't Florida have some left over Butterfly Ballots and those Chad things we can send to Cuba. Who knows, maybe Pat Buchanan would end up as President there and Ollie North as Vice President. On second thought maybe Cuba is not doing so bad.  They do have the highest literacy rate in the world. And reportedly good cigars.

Cuba never WAS a "threat" to us - The Russian missiles parked there were the problem, and they've been gone for decades.
The United States needs to quit pissing away money fighting a propaganda war with Cuba, and allow it to move into the 21st Century. After this much time since the Missile Crisis, I suspect that a lot of the conservative resistence to Cuba / American relations is more of a racial/cultural prejudice than it is a capitalism vs communism thing...

Quite frankly....If an American political party wants to be seen as courting the latino vote, normalizing relations with Cuba would be a smart thing to do.

yeah i agree snagg ..

More on Cuba, or more specifically our base there.

U.S. could save millions by paying each Gitmo prisoner $2 million annual salary to do nothing

"The cost is especially striking considering that there are only 166 detainees at the facility. That comes to about $2.7 million per prisoner per year. And that estimate, Rosenberg notes, doesn’t even include one-time costs to build a $13.5 million headquarters office or ongoing costs, the details of which are classified, to maintain the “Camp 7″ lockup for some prisoners once held by the CIA. By comparison, a 2010 California government study determined that it cost the state about $47,000 to incarcerate one person for one year."

I would actually welcome a few commies over some of those idiot politicians who are spouting off now trying to take away medicare and food stamps from people who need them.

2.7 million x 166 would buy a lotta medical care ..
