TBD

TBD on Ning

Most of us like to go out to eat.  Where are some of your favorite places to eat out?  What type of food is your favorite food to eat when you go out?  I love chicken wings and Barbecue ribs.  I also love Chinese food.

I know the restaurant as I ate there several years ago when we were in the Outer Banks  in NC, but so far there are none in the NYC area. Liked the atmosphere and the food but I'm not a real bit fish eater. I did yesterday try the McD's fish bites which were quite palatable. On ocassion, I enjoy a dinner at Red Lobster, Applebee's and any of the local diners and fast food places. It sort of depends on what I'm doing at the time. Since my area has a lot of Hispanic restaurants with Chinese, Thai and Indian, I have gone there mostly with a woman's group that I belong to. So on those ocassions, I'm not eating alone and the ambiance is better than my dining room!

I'm a big seafood lover.  I like Chinese and Thia as well.  I like anything with lots of flavor.  I've found that my tastes buds have changed over the years.  I use to not like things like spinach and asparagus but now I crave the stuff.  I could make a meal of grilled asparagus with balsalmic dressing.  There's a little family owned diner called Mildred's.  It's southern home cooking at it's best....fried green tomatoes, cobblers, homemade rolls, and juicy roasts.  The atmostphere for me is the best.  Because it's family owned it has the feel of eating with your family on Thanksgiving.  Since I live in a VERY small town, everyone knows everyone.  So even if you go there to eat alone you won't be alone once you get there.  I always have someone to talk to and they know me by name and have figured out my likes and dislikes.  Nothing fancy, just good food and friends.

Mildreds sounds like a great place to go.

Suthinsoul, I know this will sound strange, but, I have never, ever tasted asparagus,

but have discovered lately that it can be put in salads also, but some people say

that it has to be blanched first, so when you mention that you grill your asparagus,

do you pre-boil it first? and also, what is the closest vegetable that tastes similar,

so that I may get around to trying some, thanks.

(I cannot stomach chokos or brussell sprouts.)

I never blanch it.  It comes in bunches and I just wash it really good and break of the hard part off the bottom.  Just bend the pieces one at a time and they will break in the right place.  Discard the ends.  Arrange your asparaguse spears on a broiler pan and salt and pepper.  In a separate bowl mix about 3 Tbl spoons of olive oil with about 1/3 cup of balsalmic vinigar (or do as I do and just buy Paul Newman's Balsalmic Vinigar dressing....it has more spices in it and I like it better).  Drizzle the dressing over the spears and broil a couple of min. on each side.  You have to really watch it tho so it don't get too brown.  You want the asparagus to be hot but still a bit crunch so you can pick it up with your fingers.  I even have it is as a snak, it's that good.

I don't care for brussel sprouts either.  Some people say they taste like cabbage but to me they are just too bitter.  I DO love cabbage tho....cut up with onion and fried till brown in bacon grease....slurp.

LOL!!  So all that sounds good to you, huh?

Whipped cream and strawberries.....maybe some chocolate drizzle

I bought a can of whipped cream one while my son had taken me grocery shopping.  He asked if I was having a man over.  And this is the quiet kid.  :)

Thanks very much for that info Suthinsoul.

Above is the very atmospheric Lighthouse Restaurant situated at Cleveland Point,

where they do have a lighthouse around the other side from here,

and whenever I want to treat my guests to something really special,

this is where I usually take them.

(I better explain that this is Cleveland in Australia, where I live now.)

And now below is precisely what their seafood meal looks like - enjoy!

Oh yum!!  Checking flights to Australia!!!!  I'm hungry!
