What a weekend!
We had a weekend far from regular but definitely not boring. We have a place at the lake, in a campground. We buy a winter pass, which allows us to go and stay anytime we choose, so we packed up and headed out Friday afternoon around 3. Our truck broke down 9 miles from our place; we waited about 25 minutes for a tow truck and ended up being towed all the way back home.
Not wanting to waste our night, we unloaded the broke down truck and reloaded the stuff into my car but we realized during that process that the temps had dropped and by the time we drove back out to the lake and got the heat on, it would be quite late in the evening before we'd be comfortable. Sooo, we put the packed car in the garage and just stayed home.
Yesterday morning we left by 10, arrived at our place an hour later and had a great day visiting with friends, having a few drinks etc. We called it a night about 10 as the wind was was howling, the temp was about 20* or so and the campfire was burning sideways from the wind. Talk about cold!
About 2 AM my husband got up to use the bathroom and ooops, no lights. Then we realized the furnace wasn't running either....thank God for the propane heater that was still able to run as it kept it warm enough to sleep ok, well that was once we got used to the wind howling like a banshee outside.
As soon as we got up, we had coffee (boiled water poured thru my drip coffee maker slowly), packed up and came home. I hear the electricity won't be back on out there until tomorrow night.
I'm so glad to be sitting here in my warm house.
