so was anybody surprised by the playoffs this weekend ??

i remember back when we had the afl and the nfl .. and the afl was supposed to be the inferior league .. the league that came in from the cold .. the nfl had been around forever and were the real bruisers .. run you over , knock you down , and then hit you some more .. the afl was a bit more finesse .. they would find a more excitein way to move the ball down the field .. they were much more pass oriented .. and the first two superbowls were dominated by the nfl way of football .. run right, run left, and run you down and over .. but then came joe willie or as some knew him broadway joe .. the quarterback who liked his girls blonde and his johnny walker red .. and he guaranteed they would beat the mighty baltimore colts when they were in the nfl .. the jets were 18 and a half point underdogs and joe guaranteed the jets would win , which pissed a lot of stalwart nfl guys off to no end .. who the hell does this guy think he is anyway .. the afl can't beat the nfl .. they're just too slow .. not good enough to be in the nfl castoffs .. no way .. the colts will have him for breakfast and eat his lunch too .. you wait and see .. what a sad day that was for the nfl .. the colts had an excellent season even tho their startin quaterback johnny unitas had been injured and they had to rely on his backup earl moral .. i think earl moral had the distinction for playin for more teams than just about anyone and not ever really gettin to play .. it seems that somewhere in his career he was out cuttin his lawn and managed to mow off his big toe and some said it actually improved his passin .. who knew huh ?? but earl had brought the mighty colts to the playoffs and don shula ( yep that same don shula who coached the miami dolphins to their only perfect season ) decided to let earl start in the superbowl .. you dance with the one who brought you .. and little by little it started becomin apparent .. the colts were losin .. 18 and a half point favorites and they were losin to the afl jets .. by the time they decided to put in johnny unitas to try and save the day it was already way too late .. as joe namath walked off the field he said i'm sure glad we busted a lot of bookies today ..that was about 43 years ago and the thing that keeps jumpin out in my mind is what the then commisioner pete roselle of the new nfl afl merged league would say and say it a lot .. we need parity in this league and thats what i'm gonna try to do ..

  so after watchin the playoffs these last two weekends what would you say ?? i'd say he"d have to be pretty happy .. i don't know how you could get it any more even up than it is now .. we had a few really tight games .. how tight you ask ?? so tight in fact i thought i heard my tv squeekin thats how tight .. first game was denver and the baltimore ravens .. i knew that was gonna be a close one ..i'm not sure who the favorite was , probably denver cause they were the home team but boy oh boy did we get a whale of a game .. one of the best games i've ever seen .. you can't say you didn't get your money's worth with that one .. and baltimore won it after 2 overtimes ..

  next up was greenbay and the 49er's .. now greenbay had a tough start this year and might have been called a slight dissappointment after the start they had last year but they righted the ship in time for the playoffs and were playin pretty good ball by then .. the 49er's got to sit the first week out cause they were one of the teams with the best records and who knows if that week off helps or hurts em ?? well we found out didn't we ?? greenbay had no answer for the 49er's quarterback colin kapernick who rushed for 181 yards by himself .. that has to be some kinda record .. michael vick on his best day never did anything like that .. that guy was all over that field .. i never saw anything like it .. and neither did green bay .. ruined their whole day it did .. another great game even tho it wasn't quite as close ..

and then we got atlanta and the seahawks .. now atlanta had a really good record .. one of the best in the league but somehow i never thought they were all that good .. it looked to me like they had a light schedule and didn't really play any tough teams so i thought there was a real good chance that seattle could win that game .. and they almost did .. if not for some fancy time out callin at the end which gave their kicker two tries to nail that winnin field goal it could've gone the other way .. that was another tight one  .. had to check my tv again for squeeks it was so close .. but atlanta got thru ..

and last up was the pats and the texans .. did anyone give the texans a shot at this one ?? i sure didn't .. i think the texans best games came at the start of the season and by the playoffs they were just lucky to still be standin .. i guess half of it is just showin up and they did do that much .. but the pats just carved em up like a thanksgivin turkey .. the pats are lookin pretty good this year .. 

so what about this week commin up ?? we got the falcons and the 49er's .. all i can say is if the falcons beat the 49er's they'll make a believer outta me cause the 49ers look pretty tough .. i'm sure they're sittin around right now tryin to figure out what the hell they're gonna do about the 49er's quarterback colin kapernick .. if he has half the day he had against the packers they're in for a shitload of trouble .. my pick is the 49ers .. 

and the pats and the ravens ?? eeeee.. thats gonna be a close one .. if brady has enough time to throw the ball he'll carve them ravens up and make stew outta them .. but if the ravens can get in the backfield and bounce his head off the turf a few times and rattle his cage a bit it will be a different game .. and don't underestimate that flacco guy for the ravens .. he has one of the best arms in the league .. brady has a great bunch of receivers but i don't think he can throw the ball down the field better than flacco .. you give him enough time and he can not only throw the ball down the field but throw it down there with accuracy .. this should be another great game .. i'm sure pete roselle is a happy guy wherever he is now .. there defintely is parity in the league now ..

I don't think Atlanta really won that game with the Seahawks, saw the end of the game at Firestone Brewery and was amazed that Atlanta had two plays with 13 seconds on the clock but the clock numbers didn't move and the last field goal was missed but the refs let them do a do over. Come Onnnnn! Cheating isn't right. I didn't really care who won, neither of those teams are on my radar but I don't like to see the refs make calls so the team they want to win gets it. That was bad.

When I was watching I asked my husband why the clock said 13 second for the two plays, I think at least a few seconds went by to complete the plays. That re-do of a field goal kick in the final seconds should not have happened. I'm sure the sports websites didn't pick up on it because sometimes the games are fixed and no one does anything.

I'm saying this because during one whole NBA season (2006 or 2007) I kept yelling at the refs calls and jumping up and down, no one was making a big deal out of it and then a year later it was announced that the refs were being paid by the gamblers a few were caught. Of course they downplayed that.

It's Ok Chief if you say so, I really had no interest in either team just happened to see the end of that game. It didn't seem right to me however if it's legal to everyone else it's also fine with me.

I'm looking forward to the Superbowl only because of the clever commercials that happen once per year. Can't wait for that.

you think the falcons beat the 49ers cheif ??  and the pats won't have a cakewalk with the ravens either .. i think the pats have a better shot tho unless of course as i said above the ravens get in his backfield and he can't get his passin game workin .. the ravens and the pats should be the closer game .. if the falcons can't figure out what to do with that colin kapeernack guy it won't even be close ..
