Do you know a hoarder or are you one?
I am not one except possibly books but

I have a friend who I tease about being a pack rat. He's going to be downsizing too and he is cleaning out his attic. It's one of those walk up types. He has love letters from his parents, the check his father paid the hospital with when he was born. He's been slowly going through each piece of paper. He also has old model railroad trains and other stuff from his childhood. It's hard for some people to get rid of stuff. Me, I'm big on throwing stuff out. Only thing I have held onto are all the family photos going back before I was born.
I am a pitcher (as in: I don't care, just pitch it!).
As long as I can still buy bulbs that look like daylight, I don't care what they are. That was one of man's greatest inventions as far as I'm concerned.
I would not consider myself a hoarder. I used to have about 1500 books I would estimate and now am down to about 2-300. I gave many away and sold some on ebay although that is a very slow tedious process. I have gotten rid of larger items locally through Craig's List which is free unlike ebay. But now when I see a book I think I can easily sell for a profit I might pick it up at a thrift shop or auction. I try to have less every year have been successful at that. Some years I have set up at a flea market for a weekend in the summer and rid myself of some stuff I pick up at auctions or garage sales. But I don't buy stuff just to keep. I purposely rid my house of all the old incandescent bulbs just to cut down on the energy consumption although I have heard of conspiracy types buying cases of them for whatever reason. I gave away a cardboard box full including some new ones. As much profit as the electric companies make off them, they should have been giving them away all these years.
I downsized a couple of years ago,so "most" of the stuff I have is necessary, as I am not a collector of anything! I like to keep things simple - life if much easier that way!
I keep a few things from many years ago, but it's mostly family photos, my collection of Christmas ornaments, and my knick knack collection. Other than those, I clear out stuff I don't need regularly.
i have a few things I save (ceramic eagles) used to save books, but have the NOOK now and it is so nice, it will hold many, many books and only takes up the space of one. My mom was a real hoarder, so I have something to compare to, I am no where near.
I can honestly say that I am not a hoarder. Since my husband died 9 years ago, I've been steadily disposing of all his clutter and periodically I toss or sell some of mine. I've been moderately successful in selling some of his tools and some of my household items including some Christmas gifts I didn't want at flea markets. I consider myself to be in the process of downsizing.
I downsized 95 percent of my things about 3 years ago and have only missed my snow shovel so far
Julia, I think that's a good sign that we keep most things too long. Even all the photos I have, I don't see the kids wanting them once I'm gone. None of them seem to want them, because they aren't digital. I guess I'll leave them the password to my photobucket account. :)
Helen, i have taken old slides from the 50's and 60's
and had them transferred to a cd then gave them to my grand children
they can then look and compare relatives they look like on to a program
and print if they desire
My own daughter printed a picture ( on Kodak paper) taken in 1925
and framed it ...it is in her entrance way and gets many comments
It's so true about the grandkids maybe wanting them. Sometimes the photos do show an uncanny resemblance to someone way back. My kids all look like their father. (love them anyway:) ) Seriously one of my ex's cousins posted a photo on facebook of my father in law and his siblings when they were little kids. It's amazing how much my father in law and his youngest son looked the same at about the age my brother in law was when I met him when he was 10. I never thought he looked like his father, but turned out he did.
That could be really fune LaylaTX. Let me know if you do it.
