This thread (I hope) will help me. My girlfriend has been eating of Asian cooking this spring. She likes to try different things. I would like to try an impress her a little.
So my question is a small one for starters. Asian Salad. Now this might seem simple to some, but I have seen all kinds of recipes, versions, it's mind boggling. So, I would like a simple, recipe. The one I'm looking for has cabbage as the main ingredient.
Maxim, Here's one that I have used before. I got it from Cooks.com.

ORIENTAL CABBAGE SALAD

1 lg. head cabbage
1 bunch green onions
1 c. thinly sliced celery
1 c. sunflower seeds
1/2 c. slivered almonds
1 pkg. oriental noodles chicken flavor (Top Ramen, etc.)
1/2 c. vegetable oil
1/2 c. vinegar
1/2 c. sugar
Black pepper, as desired

Chop cabbage as for slaw, add chopped onions, celery, sunflower seeds, almonds and noodles. Noodles are to be broken up uncooked in the salad.
Put oil, vinegar, and sugar in blender. Add chicken flavor season packet and black pepper (optional, as much as you like). Blend well. Pour over salad, toss together. Chill. Best when made 2 to 3 hours ahead of serving.

I substitute peanuts or even cashews for the almonds once in a while.
Excellent. Sounds easy enough. Thanks! I'll try this tomorrow!
Try this easy and wife liked it

Cook pasta as directed on package leaving it a bit el dente. In the
last three minutes or so of cooking add all the vegetables. Drain
pasta and vegetables.
Reserve 1/4 cup of peanut sauce. Toss pasta with remaining sauce and
refridgerate.

Let pasta stand at room temperature for at least 1/2 an hour before
serving. Then toss with the reserved peanut sauce and an additional
1/4 cup of peanuts before serving.

When we lived in Brunei we used to enjoy Dim Sum for breakfast on the weekends. This led my wife to attend a 6 month Malay/Chinese cooking class from which we have both benefited.
When I was a kid this was my mother's idea of Asian food. We all know now Chop Suey is an American dish.

American Chop Suey

1 medium onion, diced
1 lb ground hamburger
1 1/2 teaspoon oil
16 oz cn whole cooked tomatoes
6 oz cn tomato paste
8 oz spaghetti or macaroni
3 teaspoon parsely flakes, dried
1 1/2 teaspoon basil, dried
1 salt & pepper to taste

In a skillet add the oil and brown the beef. Remove beef and saute the
onions until tender. Drain off excess fat. Add back the beef then add
the tomatoes (mashed with a potato masher first), can of tomato paste
and seasonings. Simmer for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally . Add the
spaghetti ( broken into 2" lengths) or macaroni and cook until tender
about 15 minutes more.
