Johnny Football is the first freshman to win a Heisman trophy and I know how proud his school is of him right now. I was at the University of Texas (We used to be rival schools with A & M way back in the olden days...last year) in 1977 when Earl Campbell won the trophy and I remember what an honor this prize is for the player himself as well as the institute of higher learning that he represents.
Johnny Manziel being only twenty deserves extra credit for this phenomenal feat.
In the spirit of good sportsmanship, I'd like to say (to all you Aggies out there)...It's about time you caught up with us in number of Heismans, but now that we're 2 & 2, the gloves are off!!

I saw him play against Florida and Alabama. The kid can play QB. He kind of reminds me of Tebow. What I wouldn't give to be 20 years old again. I wonder if he will stay the whole 4 years when he can become wealthy beyond his wildest dreams in just a couple of years as some NFL team pins their future on him. He is "red shirt" which means he is probably a sophomore right now.
Education vs. money...I know which I'd choose if I was 20, but being old and wise, I'd now pick education.
Really? As of now, he could buy an education. What we have here is a unusually good candidate to be in the spotlight for sometime, however, as a pro he has some drawbacks. one is his size, not big by NFL standards, not Flutie or Russell Wilson size but small when faced with 6'6" and bigger defensive players in the pros. The issue is can he make his brand bigger by staying in the college ranks where A&M will not be playing for the national championship in the foreseeable future. And of course, injury when not under contract to play for the NFL, a risk than has been a problem where it is potential not realized on Sunday.
So, will it be take the money and run, or do it one more year for the 12th man?
The smart play, It should be the money.
I lived next door to a so-so NFLer, named Oliver Gibson who played for the Steelers and Bengals. He was making $1.3 M a year, or so the paper reported. He was a Notre Dame graduate and got his MBA at the University of Chicago. When I met him he had a couple of business deals going on the side. As it turned out the Bengals traded him to Buffalo then he retired. I'm sure he is alright financially. Most of these guys can get their educations if they want it. Notre Dame graduates 98% of their athletes.
He wanted to play for the University of Texas, but was not offered a scholarship.

It broke my heart to watch the Aggies beat Bama, but this boy is good. His passing game is much better than Tebow, to me.
