TBD

TBD on Ning

So here we are looking around, taking a peek... hanging out.

On some thread a bit ago, some one said how annoying the FB was with all the trivial updating goings on.

Personally, I don't think my daily updating is all that interesting but some times I really feel the need to share.  My kitties don't give a whit and the bird...well, he lives in his own world.  His updates would mostly involve "lived another day"..."got some of that shredded stuff again (cheese)"  etc.

Mostly, I have you fine folks to droll on about my meager existence and occasional moments of wonderful.

So, here you go...Keep it brief...mundane with a bit of intrigue.

Years filled with joy & gratitude

For the first time in about 40 years, I am unemployed. At least I chose to retire this time...

When does it really hit home - The first Monday that you don't have to go anywhere ? When the first pension check arrives ?

I'm not worried or anything - Just never heard anybody detail the feeling. Most of the folks I've seen retire disappear completely, and I never heard from them again. I watched my mom nearly go bonkers in the first few years of her retirement, until she finally settled into the very different rhythm of being a grandma. I imagine I'll probably get a "fun" job in the near future, but for right now it's a new situation that I think deserves to be experienced on it's own terms....

Life needs some sort of purpose.  Otherwise I would never get out of bed in the morning.  Maybe you can cultivate some hobbies.

Snagg, the key is that you chose to retire....lots of Boomers got booted over the past few years.  It'll all work out....you'll slide into this new niche just fine.  Despite the uncertainties of our governement's role in our future,  this seniorhood life is very nice.  Remember....we were there, man.  ;-0

I cannot retire yet, but i have been unemployed AGAIN for the past 4 months and it is making me koo koo, to put it mildly.  My mom keeps telling me i should enjoy it while i can, but my marriage is already in big trouble and I have never not been working like this for the past 30 years.  I would love to soon become a grandma, like your mom, Snagg, but my daughter is teaching in Japan and my son better not even think about it yet, he is 18!  I think Wendel makes a good point about hobbies and it's always great to help somehow in the community.  Giving of yourself to bless others will never come back void.  Best wishes for you, Snagg.  :)

It sucks to be out of a job, Karen, as we get older.  Frankly, its harder to compete.  From the heart, all the best to you in 2012.

I think you hit the right note Snagg...the experience on its own terms. Too many people become restless by feeling the need to fill that 8 hour void with something deemed 'purposeful'.  A busybody often neglects actually growing, changing, and developing what is really important. Take the time to appreciate the harmony of nature around you. I like the philosophy that the Enchanted Forest is right where you are.
