Hope you feel better D'sGirl.
"You can't really train a beagle," he dogmatized.
"That's no beagle, it's a mongrel," she muttered.
Ask me about my vow of silence.

........

There.

there is a Beagle at work that never stops bugling, the Lab Lilly Crapgrass next to him is really getting  annoyed. The Weiramer, Willy,  across from it is ready to have a mental meltdown from the constant Beagle bugling..

...That's what beagles DO. Birds gotta fly, fish gotta swim, beagles gotta imitate an air-raid siren 24-7 as long as breath remains in their bodies.
That and Shelties have this unfathomable need to bark 24-7 at every wrong turn of the wind. Cute little dogs, sure. But they're intimidated by their own size and their own shadow. In my mind, if it isn't as tall as your knees, it's nothing more than an over-glorified barking rat.
WOOF!

I had the same experience, Quinn. The first time I was going to foster a dog, I asked the Foster Care Coordinator to give me a small dog, b/c I didn't have an affinity for little bitty dogs & therefore wouldn't get too attached. I was given a 6 year old Shih Tzu who'd lived her life in a puppy mill. Little Sally. Fell in love w/her. Sobbed the whole weekend she got placed in her wonderful adoptive home.

I told the Foster Care Coordinator after that that it didn't matter what size dog she gave me to foster. ;-p

I used to take both my dogs, Ginger and Monty, for a walk together, sometimes separately. Ginger died recently ( she was a very old girl ) and now Monty refuses to leave the yard for a walk. I put his leash on and lead him to the end of the driveway but then he will freeze and won't budge. Could he be fearful that leaving the yard and going down the road means he will never return home?

I think he just misses the routine of walking w/Ginger, and doesn't want to go on his own, without her, yet.

I'm sorry for your loss.

There is a Sheltie there that also  barks relentlessly. And is scared of leashes.

The Bassett Hound can bay for hours. But he does stop after a while. He has  long ears.

The  bugling Beagle wins the non stop barking contest.

The Doberman wins the loudest barking contest. he makes your ears ring. If he was in someones house, they wouldn't need a burgalar alarm. he is big/tall/ big teeth, but actually very friendly.

Maybe Monty needs a new friend to walk with, adopt him a new buddy.
