How did you get off back in the day.......electric or Manual???

........in typing 101 that is. Did you get to use a nice, new electric model or were you saddled with a worn out manual model?

I typed school reports on some sort of old manual portable. I still have one somewhere that I inherited from my Dad.
When I finally got an electric it felt like I had hit the big time! At work the Selectric was the subject of admiration.

The first time I got my hands on an electric typewriter i thought it was really cool till I found out it was just a faster way to make mistakes.

Ever ahead of my time but never seeing the bigger picture, I refused to take typing because I did not want to work as a secretary. It never occured to be that 1)it was a useful skill, 2) I could lie on a job application and tell then I did NOT know how to type.

I learned on a manual like this one, probably the same model as PA.

I was a dud at typing, and, unlike Bob, did not redeem myself on the ball field; I think I've mentioned before that I got D's in Office Practices and PE one semester. Okay, I was challenged in hand-eye coordination! Thank goodness I could make up for it in the other classes and come through with a B- average. I learned to type correctly while working as a receptionist at a business school in my twenties. Typing was not a major task, the typewriter was electric, and I had a lot of time on my hands - it made me look busy. Heh.

I learned on one just like that one but it was pea green. I guess it was not just like that one then was it.

How many times have I had my fingertip slammed in a manual....more than I wanted.

At one point in my first year typing class, the teacher assigned me a typewriter with the keys covered up. She said it was to keep me from looking at the keys while typing. Later, I understood that it was necessary to build up typing speed, but at the time it felt like punishment, LOL!
