Roosters at sunrise don't make for good neighbors in the city. Around here, in urban Southern California, they attract coyotes and mountain lions. But I do recall while growing up, being at a friend's farm and watching the killed chickens jumping are the yard. Hilarious. Later just tasty.
I already have skunks and raccoons...feral cats and kids with guns in my neighborhood. Who knows what someone is keeping locked in their basement...
But...fresher eggs? They do taste different and I love my omelets....
City chicks should confine themselves to KFC, unless of course, we're talking about city chicks. City chicks will probably want to dress up and go out to a real nice place. Most guys wouldn't want to take five of them out at the same time....unless they were all going dutch.
I do know that feeding a chicken bagged feed costs a lot more than organic eggs at the farmer's market. They do require a lot of care and cleaning - if you don't pick up after your dog, you aren't ready for a chicken. They are hell on a garden, and need to be kept within limits for their own protection as well. It is wise to disallow roosters. I live just far enough from my neighbors to tolerate theirs.
