The Art Of The Flim-Flam

Brian--

September 27, 2004

Hey, buddy. What's up, big guy? What's the long and short of it?

I don't have much on my mind this week. This will be a short. Yes. What they call in Dan Glickman's trade--the film industry--a documentary short. It's some old history with a new twist. I guess you could say Glickman has become the Master of the film industry, while I, for my part, spend my days mastering the art of the flim-flam.

This past week I've been busy… Continue

Hiroshima Day: America Has Been Asleep at the Wheel for 64 Years

Published on Thursday, August 6, 2009 by TruthDig.com

by Daniel Ellsberg

It was a hot August day in Detroit. I was standing on a street corner downtown, looking at the front page of The Detroit News in a news rack. I remember a streetcar rattling by on the tracks as I read the headline: A single American bomb had destroyed a Japanese city. My first thought was that I knew exactly what that bomb was. It was the U-235 bomb we had discussed in school and written papers about,… Continue

The Surprising Endurance of Jewishness -- My Recollections of Daniel Ellsberg

I live in an apartment building in Washington, DC. Throughout the 90s and up until about 2003 or 2004, Daniel Ellsberg and his wife, Patricia, lived in the building, in apartment 146. Daniel Ellsberg is a former US military analyst employed by the RAND Corporation who precipitated a national political controversy in 1971 when he released the Pentagon Papers, a top-secret Pentagon study of US government decision-making about the Vietnam War, to The New York Times and other… Continue

Gotterdammerung

I got a ticket to see Gotterdammerung in November, to be performed by the Washington National Opera. It's the only Wagner opera I've never seen. I am so excited. I fell in love with Gotterdammerung when I was 12 years old, and it's been a life-long love affair. The performance I will be seeing will be a concert version. The Washington Opera can't afford a staging because of the economy. (Apparently, the Ginsburgs -- Ruth and Marty -- haven't donated enough to the Washington Opera to offset the… Continue

Luke's rant about 9/11 conspiracy theories...

My son Luke posted this a couple of years ago and I think about it when I read posts on 9/11 conspiracies.

I am a proud parent and I think he did a good job on critical thinking. Critical thinking is hard to do when you are filled with emotion...

9/11

Current mood: annoyed

First off, as impactful as the events of that day were on all our lives, this date is inherently more relevant to the citizens of the big apple. That… Continue

Inspiration

I was reading "Panic on level 4" by Richard Preston. The chapter about the Chudnovsky brothers was strangely inspiring to me. It being about the 2 mathematicians that built their own super-computer in their Manhatten apartment and used it to calculate the value of Pi to the 2.2 billionth digit to search for a pattern. Strange that I felt so spiritual after such a read. I wanted to contact my ex-girlfriend who is also a nerd and talk about it, and I haven't wanted to talk with her for a month.… Continue

Remembering Aafia

So, it's the day after, and we move forward from the brief collapse of all that we thought we knew into a still uncertain future, only with another new heart wrenching pain to solemnize the passing anniversary. It's like we are all together as one, sitting shivah, reciting kaddish, comforting and supporting one another. Currently it's Ramadan in little pockets spread all over the world, and presently we'll turn our hearts, our minds, and our wills toward God through Rosh Hashanah in preparation… Continue

Funk explanation.

Sorry friends, I was going to wait a little while before I told. I've reached the end of a huge era in my life and am beginning another. On Thur. Sep. 3rd I had a disagreement with my employer (to put it mildly) and I no longer have a job. My driver buddies and I have been distraught about certain policy changes all year. It's a very long story. I decided to put my foot down. The timing was right since Kittycat and I are both receiving our pensions. My problem is: I wasn't ready to give up… Continue

REAL LIARS

Of course this won't convince the knuckle heads that continues to just make up stuff, still here is a list of all the fairy tales floating around and the real life facts. You have to ask yourself, how do they benefit from spreading these falsehoods. Do they just want to bring down the president because their side lost. Yes. Are they paid pay companies that have a stake in keeping the medical insurance business a mess as it sucks the life not only out of the individual but the whole economy,… Continue

Judge Paul Friedman

I sent my letter to Judge Paul Friedman. He probably thinks I'm a nut job. But how does that hurt me? If everybody thought I was normal, I'd be forced out of business. I'd have to go out and find a real job. Now that is truly frightening.

For those who don't remember, here's the text of the letter I sent to Judge Friedman:

The Honorable Paul L. Friedman

U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia

E. Barrett Prettyman U.S. Courthouse

William B. Bryant… Continue

Divorce: The Long Term Effects

I was divorced at the end of 2007 after 24 years of marriage. From my perspective, it was a happy marriage, producing three children and a fulfilling family life. My wife became unhappy the last couple of years and wanted out. She did not want counseling, she just wanted out. Her reason was she felt we "didn't have anything in common." Also, she had found someone else she wanted to be with. So she left.

Well, life went on. Things were tough for awhile, but I picked myself up and moved on.… Continue

Ever Wonder How Those Who Live Outside US Borders View Americans?

The author of the article of this link follows me on twitter. I thought I'd check out what he writes. Lo and behold, he lays it out in lavender about Americans:

Read Haiku to Hamburg … Then call or write Sharfstein

A message from Charles G Brown, National Counsel, Consumers for Dental Choice:

Our creative friend Marilynn Block of Portland, Ore., wrote this Haiku to Hamburg, which I re-publish in full:

To: margaret.hamburg@fda.hhs.gov

Subject: Haiku for Hamburg

2 Sep 2009

Haiku poems inspired by your actions and conflict of interest in the recent mercury amalgam ruling.

Leaves turn brown, crumble and fall

The wind carries them…

"Empty Promises" (Written for, and dedicated to, Dharma)

"Empty Promises"

Empty promises, that's all I get.

You'd think I was just a pet.

They come, and they just go.

Seems like it's just for show.

So empty promises is all I get.

I'm tired of just being your pet.

So make it happen, or let me go.

Don't make me wait, or go slow.

'Cause empty promises are all I've got.

And all you do is stir the pot.

Empty promises, that''s all I get,

And I'm tired of just being a… Continue

Just another example of how many Republicans have no respect for The Office Of The President, some "Patriots"

People on the right like to claim that they are such Patriots, but last night they exposed themselves for what they are. They tarnished the House Of Representatives.

Many will say it is about the Obama's policies but hey are again making excuses for behavior that has never been witnessed, until a person of color stepped into that office. Their racism is so ingrained and deep, that they can't ever help themselves from letting it bubble up.

I was happy to see the gestures… Continue

I wrote this last year I think

Over yonder...across the sea

Mesha stands in the factory

Spinning the thread & weaving the loom

Tiny child in basket.. alone... in the light of

the moon

14 hrs a day with very little pay

not to mention another baby on the way...while...

here I stand in front of the mirror

designer clothing mean more to me than Mesha

& her family.

Things, more things in my shopping cart

Capitalism my focus, but Iv'e lost my heart

Oh… Continue
