The longer the Democrats control Congress, the more Orwellian the language and the more sinister the methods adopted by the Obama Administration and its allies. While President Obama and his officials depict the elderly resisting the federal government's program of "death panels,” Health and Human Services (HHS) and Special Forces assassination squads are at work in nursing homes, seeking to eliminate AARP leaders and other opponents of the Obama Administration's plan to exterminate every… Continue
Over the last year I have lost over 55 lbs. I silently went about making small changes in my life that over time had a major affect. I say silently because I didn't declare out loud to anyone that I was going on the South Beach diet or joining Jenny Craig. I made a small decision to not be fat anymore. I would be "hot" by 50. I will be 50 next February and I think I'm MORE than on track.
Recently my mother asked me how I was doing on my weight loss. Honestly, I barely think about it in… Continue
This afternoon I went to my neighborhood library, the Cleveland Neighborhood library, in Washington, DC. Brian, the head librarian. was wearing a soccer shirt. I thought it was unprofessional for a supervisory employee of the DC government to be dressed so casually. Then I overheard him say he wasn't on duty today. He just came in to do some paperwork. Such dedication!
Then I overheard Brian say to a patron, "You know I'm leaving, don't you?" At least that's what I think I heard. Is… Continue
Franz Kafka's father, Hermann Kafka, had escaped a poor Jewish upbringing in the town of Wossek, about fifty miles southwest of Prague, and had made a name for himself with his successful store. He had been thoroughly assimilated, registering as a Czech national and giving his children German, not Jewish names, and looked askance at his son's fascination with what he considered "backward" and something to be discarded without a second thought. Franz brings this up for a lengthy discussion in… Continue
I am alright now. No more drunken tantrums from my boyfriend who will become a x boyfriend if he doesn't try something different. I cant handle alcohol either, that's why I have not had a drink in 8 years. I don't miss it at all.
I used to go to AA, but because of my lack of spirituality I don't go anymore. The organization teaches a person has to have a higher power to stay sober and if they don't they are on a dry drunk or something of that nature. They believe a very few have done… Continue
I realize that you may feel like I am bombarding you with information, but Health Care reform, the way Obama, Pelosi, Waxman, Reid, and Emanuel are approaching it, places this country at a critical cross roads in term of completely redefining the role of the Federal Government in our lives. Here's another point of view presented by
Mr Robert Reich:
Obama's Agreement with Big Pharma May Help Healthcare Reform Pass, but it May Also Mean Higher…Continue
Last night I listened to Orpheus, a tone poem by Franz Liszt. It is magnificent. It's definitely one of his finer musical creations. I had read years ago that Wagner admired Orpheus and was, in fact, influenced by the piece. A year ago, I purchased a recording of Orpheus and listened to it for the first time. I can understand Wagner's admiration. Wagner's wife Cosima records the following in her diary entry for August 28, 1878: "In the evening . . . my father plays us Beethoven's E major Sonata… Continue
Are you a fan of "Pulp Fiction"? "Kill Bill"? "Death Proof"? "Reservoir Dogs"?
Good. Don't read this blog.
Because I've had enough after hearing about "Inglourious Basterds" which I'm refusing to see.
Have we become so insensitive and isolated as a society that violence as a humorous diversion is acceptable?
Well, not for me. Violence in entertainment bothers me. And while critics, many moviegoers and marketers poo poo it, there is enough people out there like me who… Continue
Most seasonal flu vaccines contain dangerous levels of mercury in the form of thimerosal, a deadly preservative that is 50 times more toxic than regular mercury. Most of the swine flu vaccines will also contain thimerosal, although they will reportedly make a limited number of doses available that are thimerosal-free (meaning 1 mcg or less).
If taken in high enough doses, thimerosal can result in long-term immune, sensory, neurological, motor, and behavioral… Continue
Remember that game we used to play in past TBD? It was the Question list. People would stuff silly questions out like "What's your favorite color?" It took me a while to figure it out.
Actually I don't have too much against the Doc, except that she's annoying and single-minded.
I just was remembering old TBD, wondering if they still did that.
Hey, its me, Gary Young! You know, the smart alecky guy who was gonna go out west??? I thought I might try doing one of these blog thingies about my trip to Yellowstone Park and back.
So who is Stir? Well, that's been my nickname since I was in high school. I was originally called "Youngster" by one of my friends, I guess because I only looked about 12 years old when I was a Junior. As time went on, "Youngster" got shortened to… Continue
I'm ornery today. I'm anti-semitic, a fascist, a gun-toter, a liberal basher, a death panelist, a right to choice, anti-partial birthist, pro-war, anti-arab, misogynist, misanthropist, nihlist, reactionary, revolutionary, you name it.
I just can't be counted to agree on anything today. I'm anti-lung today, too. Smoke em if you got em.
I have a Facebook friend who asked me for an argument to rebut Rebublican claims that "the government screws up everything it gets involved in." Here's what I wrote in response:
There's nothing you can say to a Republican to convince him or her of anything. I wouldn't try. My father used to say, "Never argue with a Communist. You'll never win. They have a prefabricated argument to rebut anything you say." I think the best argument against Communism is the Soviet regime in Russia,… Continue
