I'd like my grandchildren to see an elephant in their lifetime, but poaching makes that highly unlikely.

It is so sad. Eliminate an entire species, all for the vanity of humans. Makes me wonder are we really at the top of the evoluntionary ladder?

I'm not sure what your point is Gary. This petition is about stopping the sale of ivory. Ebony would be a different thread/petition.

Yes, it is kind of difficult to completly avoid products from China and Japan, though my TV is from Maylasia (sp?). Computers are kind of impossible to not contribute something to Japan. I avoid Target, Wal-Mart, etc. because virtually everything in there is from China. I believe you're right about the last sale being mostly dead animals. However, poaching has increased the last decade.

I'm not naive enough to believe that I as one person can make any noticable difference, but doing what I can does make me feel a little better.

Now if we can eliminate the source (poaching) they won't be able to buy their aphrodisiacs, and they'll have to turn to other things.

Actually, yes, I am willing to boycott, and already boycott Japanese (whaling) and Chinese (human rights) products.

Yes, as long as the demand is there, the poaching will continue. However, stopping the trade at it's source is good too. This whole thing will be a mute point in 100 years anyway. Nobody seems to give a damn.
