Not exactly the trial of the century, or even the year, considering we have already had the Jodi Arias murder drama played out, the Zimmerman trial in Florida has gone to the jury.
As to the outcome of this one, one would have to bet on the facts it will be a decision for manslaughter, except, in Florida there is the "stand your ground" doctrine which includes the idea of self-defense on a reasonable expectation of harm.
As to what the state has to prove "beyond a reasonable" doubt is difficult since the fact of the death of Trayvon Martin is not in question, it is the circumstances and motive of Zimmerman that is question and has to be proven to gain a conviction. And it is a small jury, six women that will decide the case.
However, this is also been a highly charged event, in that, some are ascribing racial profiling and racial discrimination as to the cause of why Zimmerman shot and killed Martin. And the question is if there is no conviction then what? And if there is, a conviction, the defense will appeal. An appeal, if necessary, could be quite interesting as to the challenges which could be serious as to the conduct and the evidence used, and not used, in the trial. Meanwhile, the authorities in Sanford are watchful and concerned as to the reaction to verdict.

Fox News suggested black zombies were going to over-run the town and kill everybody.
...the have elected some very strange folks to govern -- if that's what they call it.
So, prosecution didn't prove intent and the defense proved reasonable doubt, verdict, Not guilty.
A number of reasons this trial went this way, inclusive of how the state forced the prosecution due to pressure to arraign the case as murder with intent as compared to manslaughter. And yes, the usually forces involved in racial issues of black/white which this one was more of a hue than one of a sharp divide in that Zimmerman was multi-ethic.
As both sets of attorneys said at the end-of-trial press conferences the story was a tragedy not a well thought out screen play of the Perry Mason or Matlock variety. And no, the story does not end here, there probably will be a wrongful death civil suit and there is a demand for the Feds to use the violation of civil rights as the next causes of legal action against Zimmerman.
What the country is left with is again, examination of what has been the progress of racial status as to crime and criminals. And no, profiling is not just random, it is still how society sees and protects itself against threats, real and imagined and as projected by the media and the culture, been it the N-word or crackers defining the issue for the races.
I don't think so. This trial has more parallel to the OJ trial, a racist jury.
And it t hasn't been that long since any KKK type could be convicted of murdering a minority in the South.
The Justice Department says it is looking into the shooting death of Trayvon Martin to determine whether federal prosecutors should file criminal civil rights charges now that George Zimmerman has been acquitted in the state case.
No Justice, No Peace....is the current media frame for what has happened in Sanford, Florida. And, yes, this to shall pass, as the nation's attention is turned elsewhere, but should it? The question is what has been learned about what we are as a nation and a people? Probably not much, really.
Are we a divided country and people? Sure, why not.
And we are divided for a number of reasons, some very common and some very personal but the overall effect and belief of many is that we are not one, not together and not headed in the same direction with the same values and not out of many, one.
This is how I see it, Zimmerman was a jerk to Trayvon who thought he could take him, perhaps teach him a lesson in manners. Without realizing that Zimmerman was baiting him into a trap. I've had bait thrown my way too. I punk out and walk away. Trayvon had that option. And I'm sure that there's plenty of people of all walks of life out there that had the" best revenge."
THE MEDIA NEEDS A CIRCUS!
Man of God Pat Robertson has never been one to leave his two cents out of any conversation, and he wants to make folks know that justice has been done in the shooting of a teenager forwalking down the wrong sidewalk.
On Monday's episode of The 700 Club, Robertson complained that the media had mostly used photos of Trayvon Martin when he was younger."He was 17 and he was a fully-formed young African-American male," he explained "They've showed him as a little boy, like 12-year-old pictures."
Well of course you'd shoot him if he was a "fully-formed African-American." Ye gods.
So I guess now a conceal and carry gives someone the right to be a jerk. It should be the opposite and they should have taken his license away from him instead of handing him back his gun although now he may really need it to defend himself. Thanks P.A. , that's what I was called and I had to decide whether or not to deal with it. Afterwards, I thought about it and realized that they might have a gun. People can be sinister.
