Obama Tells Congressional Leaders to ‘Act Like Grownups’ on Budget

The WSJ reports:

President Barack Obama stepped out personally to address the impasse on budget negotiations and reject a Republican proposal for another temporary resolution unless it is to give Congress a few more days to pass a permanent deal.

“We are now at a point where there is no excuse to extend this further,” Mr. Obama said during a surprise appearance at the daily White House briefing. “I shouldn’t have to oversee a process where Congress deals with last-year’s budget when we only have six months left.”

The president, who has mostly stayed out of the budget debate until now, was visibly irritated over the impasse in negotiations. “There can be some negotiations about composition” of the cuts, Mr. Obama said, but he said he will not negotiate on ideological issues like abortion in the current budget discussions.

“We don’t have time for games,” he said. “Not on this.”

Act like grown ups? sounds odd coming from the president who did not even try to pass a budget for the 2 years that Democrats had the House, Senate, and President.

Republicans in the House are doing the responsible thing that we have all had to do when the economy slows down and the money is not what it was...CUT Back ON SPENDING.

Family unit, small businesses, big businesses, corporations, and non-profit organizations know that if they are going to make it. painful cuts must happen.

Our Federal Government is the only entity that thinks recovery is based on spending so lets spend more. Obama has increased our debt by 4 trillion dollars. I seem to remember the Dems. blasting Bush for his deficit...$250 billion as it was shrinking as the economy was growing.

As an aside, Tax cuts for "those who create jobs" as Boner put it last night, is also known as allowing weapons manufacturers and oil companies to make more money, not create jobs.

That may be, pac, but only to Socialists, Communists and Progressives.

“I shouldn’t have to oversee a process where Congress deals with last-year’s budget when we only have six months left.”

No, Mr. President, the time for you to have done it was last year when your party controlled both houses and the process was supposed to have been finished in a timely fashion.    You failed in yet another duty to the American people and now you have the chutzpa to take a few minutes break from your 2012 campaign activities, to lecture Congress like you presumed to lecture the Supreme Court instead of just giving your State of the Union speech.   Your self aggrandization knows no bounds, does it?

Shut the Government down and fire the bastards.

sounds like an excellent opportunity to do so.

Feh.  It's all posturing.  Remember getting chastized by President Bush for being "drunk on foreign oil"?  Like GM wasn't shoving SUV's and big pick-ups at us fast enough.  Of course gas at a buck twenty five shooting up to 3 bucks a gallon made it seem like a real crisis.  Same thing here.  No one is going to let the economy swirl down the toilet by not raising the debt limit, no one is going to really cut into the meat of transfer payments, and no one is really going to cut into the military budget like they should.  Why?  Because it would make the guys that chase after public office unelectable.  You really want to enact serious change?  Start with making elected office a less attractive career choice by limiting the number of terms these guys can serve to one. Then they can go do what they were really born to do:  perform in poorly written porn videos.
Sometimes I think that adding a firing squad at the end of that single term would be a good idea too.
I'll cast my own votes, thank you, Pac.     Really.... You democrats
