I prefer to see the glass half full, not half empty :0)

Have a great day guys!

You mean there's a glass in this story..

is this a times are worse these days? well they may not be...we might just see more media attention...and that is not to in any way, shape or form to make light of the sandy hook incident...but we can force changes if we demand them from out elected officials....and we can also put things in perspective...after all, this horsesh** about arming teachers....1) in nyc when there was a lone gunman, the police (read 'trained personnel') arrived en masse and engaged in a gunfight with the individual...the gunman was killed...and 11 bystanders were taken to hospitals with gunshot wounds that turned out to be friendly fire...that's right..the trained personnel missed the gunman and hit the bystanders...2) so those calling for arming the teachers are now wanting to add to the list of things they want "those f'ing overpaid union thugs who demand pensions and sh**" to do...so they need teachers able to teach reading, writing and arithmatic...and instill manners and morals in the children cause mom and dad have been too busy to bother...and teach ethics and morals cause mom and dad haven't...and also put all the shots in the bullseye to protect little chip and buffy and kill someone in a real life situation of life and death with armed intruders firing at them...and all for a teacher's salary that is already complained about by some of our more ignorant citizens....

Mass school bombing in 1927 puts Sandy Hook in context

The Sandy Hook tragedy in Connecticut has horrified Americans and in some cases, opened up wounds

On May 18, 1927, a part-time caretaker at a school in Bath, Michigan, killed 45 people, including 38 children, when he blew up a school and then killed himself, along with two first responders at the scene. Another 58 people were wounded.

The 38 children were in grades three through six.

The Bath School Bombing faded quickly from history. What media there was in 1927 left the town after about a week, since aviator Charles Lindbergh had started on his flight to Europe.

However, there are parallels between the Sandy Hook and Bath disasters that are worth discussing.

The killer in the Bath School Bombing, Andrew Kehoe, spent months placing explosives inside the school. He used his job as a handyman to wire together two types of explosives, in an elaborate plan to bring down the building while it was occupied with students and teachers.

Kehoe also rigged his car with explosives and shrapnel, as well as his house.

Once Kehoe blew up his own house, he used a detonator to blow up part of the school. School Superintendent Emory Huyck performed heroically, rescuing children and adults from the disaster scene. After about 30 minutes, Kehoe drove up to Huyck and motioned him over to his truck.

Kehoe then blew up the truck, killing himself, Hucyk, and several others, including a child who survived the first blast.

Investigators later found more than 500 pounds of unexploded dynamite under the school. Kehoe had intended to kill hundreds of people, mostly students, but his wiring was faulty.

Kehoe had financial problems and was upset about having to pay taxes. He had killed his own wife before blowing up his house.

1927. Wonder what Phelps would have blamed for the Bath tragedy ? "Talkies" ? The opening of the Holland Tunnel ? The proposal of the "Big Bang" theory ?

Fox News thinks anti-gay protesters are "left-wing"

What do you call an organization that despises gay people, hates Muslims and thinks Barack Obama is the Antichrist? If you’re Fox Nation, the spinoff website that’s all Fox and none of the News, you call them “left-wing.” Or at least that’s what the site — best known for attacking Obama’s “Hip-Hop Barbecue” for creating no jobs (but featuring plenty of black people) – called the Westboro Baptist Church, the notorious cult that pickets the funeral services of fallen soldiers.

When Westboro members planned to protest the funerals of children killed in the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre, they were met by counter-protesters, including a group of bikers called the Patriot Guard Riders, which specifically organized to “shield the mourning family [of fallen servicemembers] and their friends from interruptions created by any protestor or group of protestors,” i.e., Westboro activists.

But in Fox Nation’s telling, it was “conservative bikers” versus the “Left-Wing Westboro Cult” and its  pastor, “Democrat Fred Phelps.” This was an aggregated blog post from the ever-reliable Jim Hoft, who blogs as Gateway Pundit. But even he didn’t call Westboro “left-wing,” and merely took issue with a local newspaper calling them “right-wing.”

The Patriot Guard Riders eschew any political ideology. And Phelps, while once a Democrat, damned the party in the 1990s for its support of gay rights, and picketed inaugural balls surrounding Bill Clinton’s second inauguration in 1996, shouting obscenities at Vice President Al Gore. Whether Phelps still calls himself a Democrat or not, he has nothing in common with the party today. And why should his party registration even be of relevance?

As Gawker’s Neetzan Zimmerman asks, "Here’s a question: How far to the right do you have to be that the Westboro Baptist Church is to your left?" It’s a good question for Fox Nation, whose views on homosexuality, Islam and Obama probably have more in common with Westboro’s than those of Democrats.
